yj off-road

Me and a friend are looking to buy a yj for off-road purposes, so it wouldn't be street legal. Would we still need to get insurance and registration and all that stuff for the jeep?

You wouldn't need to register it as long as u never drive it on any roads, but insurance would be a good idea just in case someone gets hurt while in it.

Do not know where you are from, but here in quebec canada, off road vehicule from atv to truck and snowmobile need some kind of registration even if you go off road only.

Exemple for us. If you do not plan to cross any street on the liscence plate you would have a "P" + digits and it is dirt cheep. You need liability inssurance.
If you plan to cross a street you will get a "V" + digits and you also need liability.

I know it is not the same everywhere, so check with office or people in your area.

In NM you'd need to register it for offroad use only, and insurance is probably a good idea too.

In Michigan, you'd be required to have the title, but as long as it's not on the road you don't have to register (plate) it. You do have to buy an ORV sticker though for any state/country operated off-road parks. As far as insurance goes, I'm not really sure. Insurance is required for vehicles being driven on the road. I believe that if it's not on the road, then it is up to the owner.

You should really be asking your local DMV. Your questions could probably be answered by the website. It's going to vary with locations as you can see by now.
