2012 jk “DEATH TRAP”

Hey, I’ve been lurking on here for a couple of months. Figured I might as well post a build thread.

I picked up this Jeep back in August.. Had a lot of character when I bought it, just didn’t suit me.
First photo is the day I purchase it
Second photo is the day my buddy and I picked it up. Before leaving the driveway, the angry eye inserts were ripped out. That night we went to a cottage party and ended up spending some time removing the dozens of yellow stickers that were plastered all over it.

Mods on the Jeep when I got it:
Smittybilt side steps
Kc light bar
Kc hi lites
Angry eye inserts
17” Eagle alloy rims
33” BFG mud terrains
Spare tire delete
eBay modded halo headlights.

Before picking up the vehicle I had already ordered some new headlights. Budget was tight during this time so I picked up a set of LED’s off amazon. They are night and day compared to stock, but will be replaced in the future. Wheels were then bedlinered black as you can see in the third photo.

I’ve removed the spot lights on top of the Jeep for now. Might re install them in the future. The past owner had really done a number on the wiring job, so It was going to have to come off regardless.

I then picked up some flat fenders off Amazon. The plan was to get flat fenders to eventually fit 35’s. once 35’s would be in place I could decide on how much of a lift I wanted. At $180 that I payed for the fenders, I didn’t expect much, but I actually ended up really liking them.
Flat fenders in fifth picture.

Fast forward to today, I now have 35” cooper stt pro’s, mounted on 15” american racing outlaw ii’s... I noticed when the Jeep was black on black that it felt more aggressive, and I missed the fun look of the Jeep it had when I first got it. Also, around my area every other Jeep is a black on black build.

So that’s the Jeep to date:
Good run led headlights
Smittybilt side steps
Hoonke flat fenders
15”x8” American racing outlaw ii’s
35” cooper stt pro’s
Spare tire delete
13” antenna
Grab handles

Mods to come:
2.5” lift
Savvy front bumper
Winch
Headlights
Evo rear fascia bumper
Etc...

I hope I did this right.

I honestly like your jeep with the more subdued looks you have with it, not screaming "IM A MODDED MALL CRAWLER!!!!!" LOL, looks good and hope to see more, I plan to soon (i hope) start kicking my build thread into high gear also...

Thank you! Within a week of owning it I had it out on a few local trails. The previous owner never left the road with as I’m sure you can tell. Once I get a lift I’ll be back out there again, pretty sure I’d be rubbing I went out right now with the 35’s.

Why is a spare tire delete a mod? Just seems like an omission.

Some people do some serious enough stuff off road to delete it for clearance, most people delete it because they are to cheap to buy a 5th wheel and tire. Its pretty easy to tell the difference.

Well, technically it's a modification to the Jeep.

I guess you could just refer to it as an alteration rather than mod. Its not my personal preference to run without a spare. When i picked up the 35's i got a spare aswell. Just haven't picked up a HD tire carrier yet. It will be mounted on there soon enough.

as well as any thing else that "modifies" your jeep in some way shape of form....including crashing the jeep....that modifies the body/frame too...not in a good way but still a mod nonetheless....just sayin...

...so when a bug gets squished into your radiator, is that a mod too?

Just installed my new headlights. I live in canada and i noticed the snow was collecting pretty heavily in the led lights I was running.
I now have:
Cibie housing
80/100w hella xenon bulbs
Rally harness.

Also spent some time at my buddies metal shop. He had offered to help fabricate a new rear bumper. Went for a look similar to what I see on the tj’s. very minimalistic. It will be sent off for powder coating tomorrow. I’ll have better photos once it’s installed on the Jeep.

Looking good! I like the look of the old school round KC lights on the lightbar much better than the rectangular light bars most currently run. (including myself) Was looking at the KC Gravity set up but was WAY too cost prohibitive for me.

I ended up selling that whole setup last week. The light output was pretty poor and the amount of wires you had to run was excessive. I will miss the look, but that’s all it really was, unfortunately.

Yeah I had that same set up on a CJ back in the mid eighties, it was a crap ton of wires to manage but looked good with all those smiley faces and sunglasses up there. LOL

Over the past couple of weeks I finally recieved:
Cibie headlight housing
Rally harness
Xenon bulbs
Rugged ridge Spartacus tire carrier
Clear turn signals

Also, a friend of mine built this rear bumper for me. I recieved it back from powder coating and it looks great! Similar to the TJ styling.

That’s all for now, but I have some things that will be arriving in the near future.
