Aggie Build

Hey guys, long story short I neglected to start this build page soon enough and therefore lack LOTS of pictures of the process. I will try to document the best I can from this point forward though. In a few days I hit the 1 year mark since I picked up my JKURR from Craig at Koon's. Since then I have added a LOT with a lot more yet to come. The reason I decided to start this now is to document a lot of the trial and error stuff that is coming up with ideas that I haven't seen posted elsewhere (they could be and the search gods could just be failing me).

Starting Package: 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Recon in Granite Crystal Metallic

Here is my list of mods to date (will be updated as I go/remember):

- Jeep Door Sill Protectors
- Rugged Ridge phone mount (Now removed for Alpine X209 WRA-OR restyle unit)
- Fire Extinguisher with Roll bar mount
- Bestop or Tuffy underseat lockbox (Can't remember which)
- Spiderwebshade Mesh Sun Cover
- GPCA Cargo Cover
- 4.5" Metalcloak Gamechanger 4.5" Lift with 6pack shocks
- Yukon 5:13 gears
- Adams 1350 Driveshafts
- Riddler Dana 44 Diff Covers w/ lube lockers
- Axle sleeves
- C Gussets
- 37" Maxxis Trepadors (37x12.5x17)
- 17" Trail Ready Beadlocks (3.5" backspacing)
- Spiderlock wheel spacers (1.5")
- Locking Lugnuts
- Wild Boar Grab Handles
- Drake Locking Hood Latches (replaced my failed Rugged Ridge Hood Latches - detailed in a separate thread)
- Maximus-3 Stinger
- Teraflex HD Ball Joints
- Steersmarts Yeti Drag Link w/ Griffin Attenuator
- Steersmarts Yeti Tie Rod
- Steersmarts Steering Stab
- AEV Procal
- Mopar (Teraflex) HD Tire Carrier
- Yellow Fog Light Covers
- Dynomax Evolution Cat Back Exhaust
- Front and Rear cameras (still a work in progress with a few clever (IMHO) ideas
- Alpine X209 WRA-OR w/ Alpine multi camera selector

***Will be updated as I remember other things or add other things***

Yet to come:

- SPOD
- Lights Galore
- Metalcloak Skids
- Metalcloak Overline/Overland Fenders (haven't yet decided, but soon)
- 40" tires
- Dana 60 axle swap (a bit down the road)
- LS3/Hemi swap (Undecided and a bit farther down the road from the axle swap. Got to get past 10k miles on this thing first...)
- Warn Zeon 10k (also pretty soon)
- Tire Carrier for 40's (really undecided)
- DV8 or something similar fender liners
- PSC Hydro assist

That's all I can think of for now. Just wanted to get the thread started so I have somewhere to start posting the random pics of stuff here and there. Hopefully some of it will help others out on decisions with their build. I will update and get pics as soon as I can!

Here are a couple of when I just finished the lift and we (my buddy in the picture and I) found a dirt mound to test flex it a little.

Riddler covers installed with lube lockers. The lube lockers made the simple task even easier.

Finished the Alpine X209 WRA-OR install. Had the trim painted to match the Recon interior trim. Came out great and the screen is a monster. I was able to install the mic in the factory spot and hid the Sirius/XM controller and multi camera switch under the glove box.

Added the front camera by originally using a Rugged Ridge hood lock assembly. I took the locking mechanism out and ran the camera through the new hole.

Unfortunately, I came to find out that the Rugged Ridge assembly sat too far back with the grill on and obstructed a ton of the camera view so I returned it and found a hood lock from Tuffy that I ordered.

The Tuffy lock has a boxed area that pushed it out farther from the radiator and allows the camera to get through the grill a little more. It worked great and kept the cost pretty low. The little boxed area that allowed it to be pressed forward also worked perfect for housing excess camera wire.

Here is the final with grill on.

Here is what it looks like from the screen

Will work on the backup camera when I get back home in a few weeks. Already made and painted an aluminum bracket that mounts to the third brake light on the spare tire that should give a really clean look. Will update when complete.

Also ordered the Teraflex front and rear big brake kit and SPOD from Krawloffroad. Will be painting the calipers and hopefully also installing that soon.

Relatively simple to wire too. Basically followed a wiring loom that ran the length of the passenger side and on the passenger side of the hood there is a hole filled with expandable foam I ran it through. (at the top under the metal piece that always gets dented and covered by swinging doors open). I used a metal coat hanger and snaked the wire in and over the speaker to drop right in behind the glove box. I just refilled with some expandable foam when I finished.

Toughest part was definitely getting it through the expandable foam as it is a pretty snug fit, but it will go if you take your time and are pretty careful not to rip the connectors from the wire as it passes through. (I may or may not have done that...)

Couldn't help myself with the Northridge deals. Ordered the PSC big bore XD steering gear. Black Friday/Cyber Monday is killing me. I really want to order my MC fenders too, but might end up single if I drop over 5k this weekend so I'm resisting temptation.

Installed the SPOD, OTRATTW switches, Rigid Dually Side Shooters, and a Rigid SR 10" light bar with flood/spot combo. The light output is outstanding. It is like putting daylight in front of you and the side shooters do a great job of throwing light to the side. The first picture shows the standard Jeep LED headlights and the next shows it with the lightbar and dually's on. The pictures truly don't do it justice though.

I also got around to installing my front and rear big brake kits from Teraflex. The new rotors are MUCH beefier than the stock stuff and the dual piston front caliper is a beast. Stopping power is greatly improved.

Still have to get the new PSC Big Steering Box installed. Keep putting it off because it just feels like it is outside my realm of expertise, but I'll get it done eventually. Can't be that bad...

Did you trim the rear pinch seam at all? Those 37's fit in your wheel well perfectly. I'm going to be adjusting my rear control arms this weekend to try and get them to fit as nicely as yours, but I was wondering if you needed to trim anything. I see you were able to retain the rear bumper fascia as well. I'm currently scraping on it when I flex so I'm going to move my axle forward to avoid it.

I haven't trimmed at all yet. I have flexed it out and the pinch seam hasn't come in contact (yet). I have full intentions of going to 40's, so it will be trimmed at some point though. No rubbing on the rear bumper either. I have too many projects going on right now, so the Jeep has been put on pause. Still have a blast driving it, but need to catch up with everything before I proceed any further.
