Post Artemis - 2016 JKUR build thread

My build thread is OPEN..

Truck has been "named" and ETA is set for early November.

My inaugural purchase are the Trek Armor / Bartact seat covers. These were tricky for me as I ordered the supplemental air bag system, and these have not been released yet. Spoke to Sal @ TA and he got me hooked with one of his distributors. I ended up with the MilSpec versions (which sound like the only option going forward) for both F&R.

The reason I pulled the trigger on these early / now is they have a 6 week lead time, and I want them here day 1 when the rig shows up.

Here we go!

This is actually a VERY good thing for me, it's forcing me to think through my build thoroughly instead of just jumping in the deep end, which is my usual MO.

So far so good on the build, will check in again this weekend and hope that they started building instead of being on hold (even though they had all the parts).

Thanks again for you all your help earlier, your guidance is what set me on the right path on how to think about all this!

The waits sucks..... but I promise it's all forgotten when you pull out of the dealership in your custom ordered Jeep.

If you're like me you'll have a stack of Jeep parts to play with in the garage while you wait.

How are you mounting? 48" was too much to fit in my garage, had to go 42".

See next post for list of parts that is growing daily...

On the HL, i will be using these to start:

GenRight offers the best prices and customer service for Hi Lift Jack Tube Mounts, 1-1/2" to be purchased online 24/7.

Mine will sit outside 365 days a year, so garage storage non-issue

Question No doubt roof rack in my future

So she finally showed up, and the wrenching has begun!

1st thing we did was spend two hours pulling the rear seats our. Holy shit, Jeep REALLY wants to make sure those don't move. It took my air gun plus two other socket sets to get those bolts out.

Really amazing that even with the 4d that my theory on limited / no room inside is validated. I put a small tool box that has my air compressor and a roadside assistance bag in the empty spot behind drivers seat (with seats out), and put some dog pads down, and there is not much room back there.

When the ARB drawer kit goes in next week, i'm going to have to get something like this i think (except to make it level with the top of the drawer / allow for storage underneath in the foot wells):

https://www.onboardair.com%2Fimages%2Ffloor1.jpg

https://www.onboardair.com%2Fimages%2Ffloor4.jpg

https://www.onboardair.com%2Fimages%2Ffloor3.jpg

No idea how you folks with 2d's do it.

put the seat covers on last night, they weren't all that bad. don't like the way they fit around the seat levers, may need to revisit this.

also did the AEV ProCal tune to turn on DRL's, looks like that thing works as advertised and they now light up!

ok, just got her back from the shop for phase I.. so far so good, although i messed up not getting the front bumper right out of gate.

initial observations -

The MetalCloak is frigging awesome, BUT...
-doesn't come with inner fender liners, which is odd for a "complete" kit
-tires rub (which i knew was going to happen, but it's a little worse than expected)
-aside from item above, the 35's fit just fine with no issues

ARB drawer kit, despite me talking to them three times live and the dealer talking to them twice, they still sent the wrong kit. Now that i have the correct kit, the fit is not as clean as i would have liked
-There is a gap in the rear right which isn't there in the picture, and causes me to lose the wider drawer with divider down the middle
-There are gaps on the front on both sides with some weird clip in cover to go over them which also makes no sense
-I think that the dog will fit on top, so that is good
-The thing is BURLY, not worried about it not holding up

Weathertech mats
-Fronts fit perfectly as usual
-Rears are underwhelming with the seats out, likely going to replace those as they don't cover much at all . This is my fault, should have waited on this

Genright tire carrier -
-Love it, tire is not going anywhere and the hi-lift mounts in cleanly and doesn't rattle
-Glad i got it powder coated, and glad i got the vent cover coated to match
-What i missed was getting the OEM license plate cover plate coated. It now stands out as bare aluminum vs the rest of the coat. Will fix that next time into shop
-Also wish that they shipped it with a locking pin for the opening side so it would lock the tire carrier, seems like an oversight on their part

The EVO J's + 6145's
-nothing but good things to say about this. it's dark and rainy here in NorCal, and these already paid for themselves tonight

AEV ProCal
-Already had set up the DRL's previously, works perfectly
-Updated the ECU to reflect the new tire size, although there is no way to tell if it works, process sure is easy
-Updated the TPMS to 31/25 and then reset all the sensors on the 5 tires using another tool, idiot light turned off after a quick turn around the block

So all in all, so far so good. Small stumbles here and there as expected, but nothing has got my sideways, yet..

oh yeah, one other thing

The 35' BFG Mud TA KM 2's on Hutchinson Rock Monsters
-Tires / so i made the mistake of putting the OEM tire/rim up against the new tires, and to be honest was seriously underwhelmed. If the new tire is actually 2" taller than the OEM's, then my name is Johnny Depp (p.s. it's not)
-Rims / no real way to say anything intelligent about them at this point except to say they look cool and appear to be super strong which is what i wanted
-TPMS sensors, i didn't reuse the ones from OEM wheels, so would suggest that you must have an AEV / equivalent and a TPMS tool to do this right on your own if you shop doesn't (which mine didn't)

Next thing i need to figure out is my Phase II build priority list.

So far i know the front bumper is absolutely on the list, likely going to with the LOD shorty so i guarantee that it won't rub, and will support the TOAD use case later. I already have my new Zeon 10s Platinum winch sitting in garage next to the shorty LED light bar, so i think that just leaves me with an SPOD to control all the new gizmos?

Inner fender liners from MetalCloak seem like a good idea as the engine is completely exposed right now, which makes me a little nervous. This is not mandatory for next phase as i won't get into any mischief in the immediate term, with the exception of some snow potentially.

Clarification on this, before someone asks. I have the U130 radio (i.e. no subwoofer in rear)

Pictures or it didn't happen! I'm like a little kid, it's like a book, if it doesn't have pictures I don't like it!

I have the Rock Monsters also. I love the look. They are a bit heavy. I've had to re-balance them a couple times. But they are so awesome.

Says you are from Silicon Valley, What shop do you use? Also, put some pics up!
