Ballin on a budget

I have wanted a Wrangler as long as I can remember. Last year I finally bought a 2010, had to get a 4 door due to the kids...which is same reason I have to budget. Nonetheless, I wanted to share my small upgrades as I go and be able to look back on my own progress down the road.

So far I have added a 2.5” RC spacer lift and kept all stock suspension, I swapped out my original fenders and removed the inner fenders as well, upgraded to 35” tires, replaced my bumper, added a roof rack and replaced the step boards with rock rails from a Rubicon.

I plan to re-gear at some point. I am eventually going purchase a quality lift, but I think I’ll do that as an excuse when parts start wearing out. Most practical next purchase in my mind is a winch. Kinda chewing on different options. I don’t have WARN money, but don’t feel like that’s an option I want to short change myself on, considering when I’d need it I’d NEED it. I want to at least get a small light bar on the bumper. Want metal fender flares, the plastic ones flap in the wind too much. Solid rear bumper, upgraded spare tire carrier or just upgrade the door hinges? All TBD I suppose.
Any feedback would be appreciated!

On a side note- I didn’t really take intended progress pics, this is just what I have. I’ll try to better moving forward.

Wired into my reverse lights. When I need a cargo light I’ll throw it in R with the parking brake on.

Thanks, I mounted it directly to my top and just used RTV to keep it from leaking, so far, so good. I’ve got several years before putting kids through school, good luck on that endeavor!

Was gifted a lightbar and hood mounts from my step father. He said he never used it much. It had some condensation behind the lens cover that I think may have furthered his decision to remove it. I was just planning to mount a small lightbar on my bumper in the designated mount holes, but it was free so...cool!
I took apart the light bar and removed the moisture and sealed it up with RTV. Hoping that does the trick. I have to go buy a switch before wiring it up, I wasn’t expecting this gift!

Just had some transmission issues. Code was P0750, putting my transmission in limp mode. I dropped the valve body and replaced the “kick-down solenoid”(or shift solenoid depending on who you ask). Just finished a test run on backroads and a stretch of interstate and all shifted well. Saved a LOT of money fixing the transmission myself. Hopefully it continues to shift properly. Fell free to hit me up if your 42RLE decides to shit on you!

Nice build. Im looking to do the same thing. 20 years ago, id ditch the stock tires and buy larger right away. Now, as a dad, im like, "once these ones wear out, I'll upgrade them". Lol, i feel ya.

I appreciate it. I kinda wish I had gone with either a less expensive 2-door, or an older model Jeep that I could’ve bought cash. I have fun in this thing, but could have much more fun if it weren’t my daily driver. I’m sure all the guys that have 37” tires,4:56 gears, and Teraflex suspensión laugh at mine, but I have a good time in mine. I’ve got to replace these tires soon, probably gonna get laughed at more when I get an affordable tire rather than some “MOAB proven” performance tire. Lol. Did I mention I don’t run beadlocks? 😁

The only thing that matters is having fun I've wheeled stock and I've wheeled modified and what comes to mind is the old saying "it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow"

Jeep is looking good!

No one laughs at someone else's build, and if they do they arent worth a shit anyway.
Yours looks great, and you have done a great job of keeping it where you need it. Yours will do 95% of what those 37" build rigs will do without breaking a sweat. The last 5% will be made up easily by a skilled driver with the knowledge in hand of building it and fixing it yourself. Awesome work on the trans repair.

Thanks! I just had to have a laugh. I see people all the time making snide comments because someone has a RC lift, or something not made in America. I also had a guy that I consulted a few times about affordable parts and he ALWAYS referenced the name brand. He kinda quit talking to me about Jeep shit after I got lesser expensive name brands. He’s also one of those previously described. More power to those guys that can afford making their daily driver able to trek mt Everest. That’s just not happening overnight with me haha.
