Green Gretchen JK 2016

Hi all! Well I picked up my 2dr Wrangler finally today! 2016 Hyper Green!! I've done most of the cosmetics, I just need to replace the head lights with the new LED's I got.

Here's the image from the lot, with nothing:

Here's Gretch, with the black grill inserts...

The new tire cover and some decals added:

Adding the Grills for the tail lights...

Added the gas fuel door:

One of my favorite additions! The USAF star with a lovely lass! I'm a big fan of WWII nose art and pin up!

No probably not, I'll be in Texas for the weekend and beginning of next week! Without the Jeep unfortunately I literally just got her, and now I have to leave her here for 5 days !

Sorry forgot to answer ya... For the immediate future, I'm adding new LED headlamps, the "angry eyes" headlight covers, and I have on order some seat covers and steering wheel cover. I also need a lock box.. something I can stash under the seat...

Did some headlamp replacement today.

Here's a shot of the stock Halogen's that it came with...

Taking off the grill... It really feels like it's going to snap when you pull it out..

Popped the new ones in..Also a bit hard to unplug from the main electrical plug.. I had to use a flat head to pry the bulb from it's connector...

And Wah-la!! Finished! I think they look great... Added the angry eyes..

Unfortunately I'll be going to Texas for the next few days so I won't get a chance to do anything else until I return..

Just got back from Texas, I already missed my baby and I've only had her for like a week!

Anyway, I just today ordered these on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Honestly, I'd really rather buy American, and or geniune MOPAR parts, for important stuff, but I really like the design on these. The problem I see with MOPAR is that they don't have anything "fun". All of there stuff is very basic and 'stock'. Anyway they should be arriving tomorrow, so I'll see if I can throw them on Friday, if not probably over the weekend. I'll give my review in another thread. I seem to recall a few other people on here posting about them.

Any one else have them already? Quality? Ease of installation?

Okay, So first, I bought these, literally 2 days ago, and thanks to Amazon, they showed up this morning! Gotta love Amazon Prime...

So, this "Tyger" brand, no offense at all..but I was pretty dubious about. Also I felt bad that my first big purchase was from a Chinese brand. But I really liked the design on them. Anyway, I was worried they'd be really crap quality.

When they arrived, boy are these guys heavy! I mean I don't have any experience dealing with side rails, so honestly I can't give a balanced comparison, but these feel very very solid, plus the texture on them is super "rough". I'm happy with that, I didn't want smooth, polished rails, these are very gritty and rough to the touch.

So, let me show you what they look like in real life:

Me Opening these guys up...

Unwrapped, They look good, like I said, each one has some good weight to them..

What I liked is that the instructions were (sort of) clear and concise. Again I mean NO offense by this at all....but a lot of "Foriegn" instructions for these types of things provide really poorly worded, mis-spelled and horribly laid out instructions. The instructions provided here were pretty good. Images helped. I just wish they would have provided images of the different screws/washers/nuts with each one next to the name.

But overall, they worked.

(BTW the instructions say it's highly recommended for two people to install..definitely true. But! The easiest way I found to do it with one person is to ignore the instruction of attaching the two bigger screws underneath the jeep first. This makes it VERY hard to hold the bar up, align it and screw it on. To give yourself some leverage, "pin" the bar to the side holes with the smaller screws so it's hanging there. Then you can have a free hand to screw it in from underneath.)

Above, notice the loose screw, I just used it to "hang up" the rail while I worked on bolting it on from underneath!

And Wah-lah! Done and Done!

For main screws! and it's attached!

What do you guys thing? Later I'll take and post a wider angle pic with the rails on.

My overall rating of these rails? I like 'em. A bit of a learning curve if you're doing it with one person. Oh yea and one of the 6mm bolts I couldn't put on in the passenger side. The rail doesn't sit exactly flush so the screw isn't aligned...This could be because I did it with no one lining it up for me, so I won't count it as a big strike against them :P

Okay, So after I installed the fuel door for Gretch, The "gascap" indicator light came on in my dashboard. I tried adjusting and readjusting it to no avail. Unfortunately, I put off waiting to actually completely remove it, and try redoing it, and now the check engine light came on.

So I broke out my trusty OBD II diagnostic reader:

I really...really recommend one of these! It saves me from taking a trip to the dealer/garage and have them tell me what I can find out with this guy. Pretty easy to use as well, it prints out the code like below:

So yea as expected It's the P0456 error with is a "Light gas leak"... usually it's just the gas cap.

You get the code, look it up in the manual and presto !

So I finally had to remove the taillight, straighten up my previous shoddy work, straightened up the gas intake "pipe" and when I restarted, the gas door light was off, but the check engine light remains.

The other great thing about the OBD II tool is that you can clear any Check engine light alarms! So I cleared it and Gretch is good to go!

Where are you getting a lock box? I've been thinking I need one but I'm not sure what works best. I'd love a great suggestion!
PS, love your color, heehee!

I don't think you can get an under seat lock box for 2dr. I have '15 2 dr, I looked around last summer shortly after purchase. I didn't have any luck. Maybe that's changed tho. Good luck.

To answer both, I haven't actually looked for the lockbox yet! I mean thinking about it, it probably is more practical to get a box that some how attaches to the jeep itself...or else someone can just steal the box out of the truck lol. So I'm not sure how that would work. I saw some "ammo" or "Gas" can style boxes that attach to the rear gate, but I'd like something in the cabin with me.... Anyway for now I've been using the lock box in the middle console that serves as an arm rest as well...

Anyone who has any suggestions please free to post here!

I have the Tuffy Driver's Side Security Drawer. Has worked very well for me. Eventually I may buy the passenger side one as well. I went to the hardware store and bought some self-adhesive felt sheet and covered the inside of the drawer with that.

So, because of the price difference, I went with the MOPAR floor mats. Gotta say, while they are sort of thick, and seem to be durable..the size and coverage area is very disappointing to me. I really think I should have just gone with the Quadratecs, they seem to be wider and cover the upper area (the base of the console)

Here's them right out of the bag:

This came out way darker than I wanted..the sun was out:

Here's a better shot. If you look you can see all of the exposed area. I wanted all of that covered...
To me these only protect a small amount of potential area..

oh well..I got what I paid for I suppose. I may upgrade to weathertechs or Quadratec's one day. Anyone else think these are too small?

So, I was inspired by the thread here by Mad_Mac https://www.wranglerforum.com/f19/its...s-1768361.html

So I went out, and tried to find a can of spray paint to match the hyper green color of Gretch. I was pretty skeptical of the color in Pep Boys, so I just ordered a can of MOPAR Gecko Green. (I couldn't find MOPAR's official Hyper Green color...) Anyway, the tow hooks, front and rear are small, so the *slight* difference in color isn't that noticeable to me. What do you guys think? First image is the front tow hooks before I sprayed 'em.

I forgot to take a 'before' show of the rear tow hook, but it was just all black. Thoughts? Comments? Not to sound like an HG-TV room decorator, but I think the highlights go well with the coat of the truck!
Squerly likes this.

Small customizations continue. Now let me preface by saying, yes I know the armor cowls are for people who take it more off road, or have the wild opening doors to protect against the mirror dings. I don't have a concern for any of that, but I still like the look of the contrast, so... dropping the 80 bucks, wasn't too hard of a sell for me.

Anyway, I like the way they applied, strips of adhesive hands on the underside of each cowl plate. Said to apply them when the surface temp was like 80-120 degrees. No biggie here, it's been heats-ville for the full week here in NJ.

Cleaned off the cowl area with some light soapy water, let dry and stuck 'em on!

Haven't had any bigger updates to Green Gretch, but this guy arrived yesterday! Put it on this afternoon. Here's the link:

RedRock 4x4 Rear Wrangler Double Tube Bumper Guard - Gloss Black J100567 (07-17 Wrangler JK) - Free Shipping

So as a mini review, this thing was sort of easy to put on, but a pain if you're alone. It comes with some brackets to put it to the holes on the bottom of the stock bumper. It's almost mandatory that you need two people.

My only "gripe" is that it's a bit light. One one hand I was hoping for something really heavy and solid feeling so to give me the piece of mind that it's like a brick wall if someone rear ends me. lol, That being said,I like that it's sort of light because it won't drag down the MPG. Overall I'm liking it, if you buy it, get someone to help you out with it.

What do ya'll think?

Hmm Gotta admit I'd a *tad* disappointed here... I went ahead and got myself some 1.5'' spacers for the front and back. I bought them from Extreme Terrain (boy those guys ship things fast! I love them...) I got these:

RedRock 4x4 1.5 in. Wrangler Wheel Spacers - Black - 5x5 Bolt Pattern J100792 (07-17 Wrangler JK) - Free Shipping

So in looking at them when they arrived, they were pretty thick! So I had high hopes, but once I got them on, all around...while I could see the difference it was..pretty slight and subtle. Not *as* wide as I was thinking they'd stick out. I mean I don't want it to look comically wide, but I was hoping they'd stick out beyond the stock fenders.

So here's them in the box, all nice 'n shiny:

And this is the front and behind before the spacers went on:

And now, here's some shots with the spacers on:

Another tiny disappointment (also my fault) is that I wish I could have found a green color! I'd have loved to have something in there that I can see or adds to the Green-ness!

So yea, they look good, do the job, but I just wish I was a bit more realistic with my own expectations!
