Hey All, I have a couple of things to report in on. First off, Expedition Builds is currently sitting at #7 of the top 15 Jeep Blogs. You can see that on Feedspot:

https://blog.feedspot.com/jeep_blogs/

Secondly, I just finished a review of the install and trail report on the RSE Step Sliders I installed before heading West to wheel...

https://www.expeditionbuilds.com

The sliders have been a great upgrade, appreciate them everyday!

Funny how things turn out. If you go all the way back to the beginning of my build, you'll see that I'm referring to my build as my wife's Jeep.

That's how it started out, with her telling me she wanted to get out of her MDX and into a Wrangler. The stipulation being she wanted me to build it up for her. How could I say no to that!

As I got more and more into the Jeeping world, and Rubi kept evolving and growing bigger, my wife felt it was now too big for her. It wouldn't fit into certain garages, it wasn't the easiest thing for her to get in and out of, etc..

We began talking about getting her another Jeep, with a build that was a little more mild, and suited her better. Last night we scored this for her...

It's a twin of Rubi...a 2016 Hard Rock, in Granite Crystal Metallic. It has only 18k miles on it, never been off road, bone stock. This is gonna be fun!

Nice! My favorite color. In the beginning, I was looking for Granite Crystal Metallic but I couldn't find one that was in the price range I was willing to pay. I settled for black but I always wonder about my decision when I see that beautiful GCM color.

Congrats! Awesome Jeep.

I will take the line of a year before she doesn’t want to drive it anymore, because it is too big, etc.
It might actually be fun to build it into a forest road rig, instead of a crawler. Tires no bigger than 33’s and a 2.5 lift at max.

Steven it's getting close to tire time for me. Been running K02s for a long time and it may be time to switch up. Now that you 've got some good highway and off road miles on the MXTs are you still happy with them? How do they handle that Midwest snow?

New jeep looks great but is she gonna try and grab those RSEs from ya? LOL

Haha, I'd been wondering how well she was dealing with you commandeering her Jeep.

Great find. And great color!

"Rubitoo"?

Patiently waiting to hear plans for the new build.

Congrats to the both of you. (Sounds like you just had a baby...)

Well...I been talking with her about a 2.5" lift and 35's. A forest road rig is about right.

Hey Billy, good hearing from you. I just finished writing an article recapping my last wheeling trip. In that, I cover the MXT's in depth. I'll publish that in the Blog tonight or early tomorrow.

Suffice to say, I'm a huge fan of the MXT's. They've been great in the snow, on the trail, etc.. I hope you check out the article.

Thanks my friend! The color is amazing. She absolutely loves Jeeps, and can't wait to get started.

She asked me today if I could get the lift and tires installed this week, lol. I want to take a little time and think through a thorough build with her. I have an outline in my head, but lot's of choices, especially wheels.

Have you seen the new rigid light Bar? It is GPS enabled, so that the faster you go, the further it throws light. It also has changeable color surrounds, etc. pricey, but very cool.

I hear ya! And the answer is baby steps. Start with easy/moderate trails, get used to and comfortable with your Jeep and your capabilities.

Here's the first 3 trails I ran the first year I went to Moab:

1) Spring Canyon Bottom

- Scenic, easy, allowed us to flex just a little and use sway bar disconnect, locked axles, 4low.

2) Rainbow Terrace

- Scenic, easy drive out, first real ledges we had to get up(24-30"). Learned even more, never in danger and had a blast. You will also have sand dunes on this trip.

3) Fins & Things

- This taught me the most, scared me a little. This is where I gained a whole new level of respect and confidence in the Jeep. We were climbing up and coming down Fins I could not stand or walk on. Looking back, this trail is where I became a true Jeep enthusiast. I learned about approach and departure angles, the need for my upgraded brakes, and on the long drive home, I knew I wanted to graduate to 37's.

This was the first year I wheeled Rubi. Each year has been more capability added to Rubi and more difficult, challenging trails.

Thanks for your post, this was a great exercise of looking back and realizing a few things I hadn't really connected before

Actually, there are people that just driving with them let’s you know what can, and should not, be done. The secret is learning how to pick the lines, and knowing when to stop.

I got to spend just a couple of hours on the trail with @AzScooter in Moab on 7 Mile Rim. Wheeling with him (following him) taught me a lot. We compared notes on locker use, lines, etc. He is a very skilled wheeler that knows his rig and isn't afraid to hit the trail hard.

Because my trip is usually mid to late October, we are sometimes the only ones on the trail. I try to err on the side of caution when I'm out alone.

How long have you been wheeling Scooter?

My first rig was an 84 Toyota, that I had bought brand new. I have had 4wd pickups forever, but only have had a Jeep four about four or five years. I have just been lucky enough to go with people that actually are really good at spotting lines, and explain8ng them.

It's cool having my wife's stock Hard Rock around. It's easy to forget how much mine has changed with all the mods I've done.

A few observations as I've jumped into hers Jeep to runs errands.

- The Metal Cloak lift on mine rides better the her stock lift.

- Stock Hard Rock feels light, and quicker than mine.

- I forgot how much quieter the interior is with the Mopar headliners installed in mine. Hers sounds like it echos almost inside with the hard fiberglass roof surfaces.

- Mopar BBK is so much better on mine.

- Stock headlights look like a flashlight that the has about half a battery left in it, weak and so warm in color compared to the J.W. Speakers.

- The stock BFG KM's are starting to hum at 18K miles, and you can actually feels the knobbies vibrating through the seat.

- It's not a bad vehicle to drive in it's stock form...especially for something that is so capable off road. It's Black Friday weekend, time to make it so much better...

Ok, so the wife's build is taking on a little more clarity. This will be her daily driver, most likely not see more the a moderate trail off road.

I started by putting together folders on my desktop of lift sizes, wheels, etc.
She really wants it built right, and the looks dialed in. I think that getting the looks dialed in will make her the most happy. She will be keeping the stock fenders, 10X bumpers, and running 35" tires.

She made some choices late last week, so I was able to take advantage of Black Friday sales. Here's what's been ordered so far:

- 3.5" Metal Cloak Game Changer RockSport lift

- Dirty Life 9303 wheels

- Teraflex Alpha HD Tire Carrier

- Mopar BBK

- Max-3 Striker Guard

- Max-3 Stealth license plate bracket

- J.W. Speaker headlights/fogs/taillights

The Max-3 parts showed up first, so I got them installed. Here's a look at that...

And here is the Stealth License plate bracket. I really like this design because it doesn't interfere with the lines of the 10X bumper...

Pic of the wheels...

I'm going to start a blog post that will detail this build over on www.expeditionbuilds.com Follow along there.

I believe I have heard that “Wife’s Jeep” line before.
I’m surprised you didn’t go to the game changer no shock option, so you could spend a little more and get the Falcon shocks. I was also a little surprised with the 3.5” instead of the 2.5” simply because of getting in with a dress on. My wife is tall, at 5’10” and that is one of her complaints about my Jeep. It will be interesting to see where a mild build leads you.

Haha, you have heard me say that. This one is hers.

Without breaking the bank, we'll try and move this build along in stages. I think upgrading to the Falcons will be round two, final touch.

The 2.5" or 3.5" was a back and forth debate. I know her, she really likes big trucks. I know she could see it on 2.5" and say to me, I thought it was going to be taller? I'll install the M.O.R.E. steps I had on mine to make it easier.
