JD Willys Build

Hi all!
I've been slowly learning this forum and have decided to do a build thread to show and keep track of all that myself and my husband have done to my 2015 JKU Willys. I'll start with a picture of when we got it from the dealer my husband works for.

We bought is used in July of last year. Previous owner decided it needed highway tread tires instead of the BFG MT's that it comes with but left the spare the original MT. Real brain child there. Anyway it was all stock except the tires. It did come from Canada, not sure if that means much. Undercarriage wasn't in bad shape or too rusty I guess. Needless to say me and the husband were already looking at lift kits and tires among other future upgrades. Also came with the factory soft top that we immediately put on for the remainder of the summer months.

This was probably a month or so after we got it. As you can tell we got rid of the highway tread tires and went with a set of Kumho's a little bigger than stock. I think they are 285's. Husband installed a Rancho lift kit with new springs and shocks. He did cuss a little doing the front shocks though. The top nut on them was seized up tight and he ended up breaking the top stud off the original shock. Other than that he said it was no problem at all. We also upgraded all of the front lights to LED's with halo's but did not hook the halo's up at that time. We were leaving on a trip and needed to get it done. Also added the flag stickers on the fenders to match the Willys lettering.

We didn't really do anything more over the winter except grab handles and tail light covers. Husband also scored a 50 inch light bar they pulled off of a used jeep that was traded in so we have yet to get it mounted up. In the spring the husband decided to surprise me with a new hood. I will admit I wasn't too big on the idea. I was perfectly fine with the original hood. But after he told me what he had in mind and had already set up I fell in love with the idea. It's the rubicon style hood with the center painted black and then he had his dad do a mural of a campsite in the mountains with my jeep parked next to it. I love the outdoors and camping so of course I was all for it. Here are some pictures of process on the hood we got after it was done.

For my birthday the hubby got me a new Pioneer stereo with a backup camera and a 10" kicker sub and amp set up. He got it all done and vacuumed out my entire car the weekend before my birthday. It was AWESOME. Sorry, I do not have any pictures of that however.

Then at the end of June we were on our way to the good guys car show in Des Moines when a little blue Subaru decided to pull out from a stop sign in front of me. Worst part was I was fully stopped when he hit me and he hit and just kept driving on through. He did stop after he got all of the way through. Husband assumed he was getting ready to run but decided not to. Took out the entire left side of his car and just the bumper on the jeep thankfully. To top things off too the guy was uninsured so now we are having to deal with that headache.

Husband thought he'd be cute and shed some light on it with the Little Blue Scooby Doo sticker since it was a Little Blue Subaru.

Husband also viewed it as the perfect reason to upgrade bumpers. So now goes the mission of finding what I like. It is overwhelming how many different bumpers there are out there. Finally decided on what I liked and left it up to him to get it.

The New Bumper from EAG

Daughter had to inspect it lol

@jdwillys be sure to wrap your front grill. My willys grill had a few rock chips until i wrapped it. I found a local shop and they used Xpel. It prevents rock chips, self heals, and doesn't yellow (i've had mine since 2014 i believe).

Husband thought he'd be sneaky and snap a picture of me taking the nuts loose on the bumper. His air compressor isn't working right now so we had to do it the old fashioned way with hand tools.

Is that a spray on kind or like a sticker. Dealership the husband works for uses Xylon coating. (I think that is how it is spelled) I know its a spray on protectant.

Itís a transparent paint protection film (sticker). I also have it on my headlights, and fogs and I use 3m (similar film) on some areas of my bumpers.

Husband surprised me again and got me a Smittybilt x20 10,000 lb winch to go on the new bumper. Said it wouldn't look right without it and got it for a steal. Under $300. So we got my LED fog lights swapped over to the new bumper, mounted the winch all up and hung it on the front of the jeep.

That was Monday night. Tuesday night he pulled the headlights out and finally built the harness for the Halo's on the headlights and fog lights. We didn't get much else done besides that last night except I painted my brake booster so it's not so ugly. He was just happy we didn't have to relocate it. It fits perfect with the bumper and winch. Hopefully we will get some more done tonight if not all back together. We only work on it a couple hours at night after little one goes to bed.
