Jimís Wrangler build thread (Sarge the Jeep)

Well I feel I have done enough to at least start a build thread for my new to me 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport

So far I have replaced the front side marker lamp bulbs with 194 LED (amber) bulbs, and bought a locking fuel cap to politely deture fuel theft, also picked up a new radiator cap but some how sprung a coolant leak so go figure…

For my first true mod I decided to pick up an under seat storage unit that I can keep things locked in

The jeep is currently at the dealership, having the turn signal switch and radio replaced under the buyers warranty

Well just got the first of many goodies...for the Jeep, the Besttop security lock box that goes under the drivers seat, I figure if I may remove the top ever I might as well have a way to secure any thing I may keep with in the Jeep....this is the first of many upgrades I guess...Pics soon to come.

Only thing that pisses me off is not having the 18MM socket and T30 handy...UUUUG!!!!!

well went to install the security box which was marked to be compadible with my jeep and found that there is a seat bracket bar in the way, oh well, guess I won't be able to have a nice security box in my jeep bit bummed about it....uuug.....anyways looking for more mod ideas and suggestions, I already tossed a K&N filter into the air box, so now I just need to reset the ECU to retune its self and relearn...

Did they maybe send the passenger box? You might double check it because it should fit right up to that bar (if it's the same one I'm thinking of).

@Angie : im certain it was the driver one, as it had the slant in the driver side floor pan, but the seat (appearantly different in the '10's?) has some stupid cross member blocking the install, so I sent it back to Amazon...rather depressed about it still...UUG!

Sorry to hear you had a problem with the lock box. I put lock boxes under both seats and use them a lot. Tuffy went right into my 2014 sport.

I agree, I was irritated, however if i can find a set of 2010 seats that would fit (or at least to test with to see if they would) that might solve the dilemma and then I could either reorder the box (sent it back so I wouldn't have it taking up space) again or just swap the seats and leave as is....though I am not planning on keeping much in the jeep anyways...at least nothing that can't be locked away...

on to other things, now I need to figure a way to solve the half heat and half cold air situation, been thinking heater core blockage, and perhaps when I changed out my coolant cap it some how exacerbated the issue and made it known...either way going to possibly have to do an entire flush, then use HOAT or standard regular non HOAT/non OAT coolant that doesn't have this silicate stuff in it.....

well today was a semi sad day...and an irritating one, but I only really have my self to blame for it I suppose as I failed to double check I was clear, but anyways sadly the Sarge got hit, thankfully its not horrible, just needs a new bumper, fogs and possibly new frame pieces and an alignment, however the other vehicle looked to need a whole new door and then some (wish I had snapped a pic or two of the other car...) but oh well...good thing Jeep still makes them like they did in the old days...

Damn, that's too bad. But you are OK, that's the really important thing. Sarge can be fixed.

Good luck Jim!

well aside from dealing with the insurance bit, I have decided to start looking into the Android HU for my Jeep, would also like to find the center console and USB plugs for the 2012 Jeep so I can install that functionality in my Jeep, but really have not decided how I want to set up the USB stuff yet perse....

well just purchased the Jeep interface programme, from https://appcar-diagfca.com/en/, and I am using it with mixed results, not sure if its due to the limitations of the programme or if its the Jeep limitations I am fighting here, I am going to assume its the Jeep, but either way I was able to do a few things like turn on the function where lights turn on with wipers, and turn on the ability for running "quad beams" with fogs (able to use both high beams and low beams together with my fogs instead of all lights turning off when high beams go on)

adjusted the DRL settings so the fogs are used instead, and hope that I will be able to figure out the supposed LED settings, but can't seem to find those so yea.....

I do like the programme however as I do have the ability to adjust my jeeps settings as I see fit so any future jeeps I get I will be able to do so as well

Well decided to show my Jeep a bit of love (like I haven't been doing that as is?) and ordered a set of LED fogs and the interior grab handles for it, figured I had an amazon credit on my account so I decided to just give them a go, worst case I will just send them back if they don't work for some reason. Can't wait to get my package!!

I have the same grab handles. I'm so adapt to grabbing them when I get in/out that when I'm in any of my other cars, I catch myself instinctively reaching up .... and their not there.

Mine are black, but I'm liking yours a lot!

thanks!! I like them, they were a to get in however, and the one on the passenger side is still fighting me...uuug...anyways the driver side is more what I am concerned with as I keep grabbing the steering wheel and thats no good, also managed to get the fog lamps installed (that in its self was a fight to the end where I would have been smart to buy a 3/4 impact zip gun and a couple long extensions and a u-joint with a 18MM deep well....

but thats all in, pics are uploading so i will edit this post when I get them uploaded!!!

Not sure where the problem is Jim, these are pretty easy to install. The only problem that I can imagine is if you're trying to screw the top screw in straight when it needs to go in at an angle. Aside from that, this should be a pretty simple install.

For the lights, jeep made it interesting as they don't always use the same approach on every instance. The one you are having problems with is really easy once you understand where the latch is.

I don't remember if it's on the top/bottom or left/right side. But once you find it, it's really easy to disconnect.

Good luck !

The driver side went in pretty easy after I figured out I was using two long, instead of one long and one short.......as for the issue I am having it is the one on the passenger side with the long screw sticking out some (the one that screws to the A pillar wall, the small screw by the sun visor seems to have gone in just fine also....so yea I am a tad confuzzled with it....I can provide pictures if you wish for me to show you, im concerned that if I tighten it any more than it already is I may cause something to break....don't want to do that obviously....

I just went out and looked at mine. The long bolt goes in the bottom and the other goes in the top (by the visor).

I don't know what your install procedure is, but you don't want to tighten up the top (or bottom) bolt until you have them all (in this case, both) bolts installed. You may need to giggle the bracket around until the bolt finds the hole it needs to insert into.

I just went out and looked at mine. The long bolt goes in the bottom and the other goes in the top (by the visor).

I don't know what your install procedure is, but you don't want to tighten up the top (or bottom) bolt until you have them all (in this case, both) bolts installed. You may need to giggle the bracket around until the bolt finds the hole it needs to insert into.
hmmm I tried that and its still acting like its bottoming out on something (the longer bolt) but I can always take them out and retry again or just say F it...I usually am the only one in the jeep anyways....

Well got some good news, after getting my fogs in and driving with them, and then looking at a Tesla with the other half and experiencing LED headlights I got spoiled, yea the current halogens are slated to be ripped out ASAP even if I need to go to Jeep and get the factory OEM ones installed...

well have a day off today so I went and installed the USB charge port with volt meter, now I just need to cut and splice in the wires so it can receive power from the power port
