JK Ute Build

This build started about 18 months ago after I met Pete from Riot Offroad..... not long after that I purchased a 2009 CRD (Common Rail Diesel) 2.8 Turbo diesel 4 Door JK. The original motor was blown and a rebuilt motor was installed and then it went from there! We call pickups Utes ;-) It will remain a 4 door with a custom tray on the back.

A bit of gear was then purchased.
Dana 60 Ultimates - Had to cut off all the brackets and remake them to fit a Right hand steer along with engineer and cast a RHD steering knuckle.
Kings Shocks
CalOffroad 3.5" Premium Tapered Springs
Currie Tie Rod
Teraflex Draglink
CalOfforad front and Rear trackbars
fuel Hostage 3 Wheels
Procomp Extreme 2 MTs

Then we got stuck into stripping out and cutting the back off the JK.

More pics and posts to follow.... stay tuned

We bought another JK chassis, which we cut up to use the same steel in the chassis stretch along with the cross member. We also had to do a few other things with the chassis and welding to keep it all approved with the engineers that certify the build to keep it all road legal.

This was tack welded in yesterday.

Hope you have enjoyed my project so far will keep you posted with new pics over the next few weeks. Hoping to have it finished by Xmas

yeah getting there... figured if i'm going to do a serious build then cant really skimp in the parts etc.... Hopefully the long arm kit will go in over the next few days! If I had my time ago though i probably would have gone an LS3 instead of a rebuild 2.8 Diesel.

I'd love to have a CRD in mine. For the $ its hard to beat a LS or Hemi conversion though.

yeah i would have done an LS but mine was already a diesel ... so easier to keep the same for the moment.

Not the best picture but the chassis stretch is 95% done. just waiting on some pieces of steel back from the benders that gets welded in on the bottom of the chassis... but have the body sitting on the chassis now. New rear driveshaft is being made this week then the Rock Krawler long arm kit will go in!

A bit slow going at the moment. Made the rear tray and wasn't 100% happy so cut it up and rebuilt it. Should be finished in a week or two for the powder coaters and then ill put the floor in and do the electrics and tailgate.

Made the rear bar with removable side wings but have a few modifications to do before I send it to the powder coaters. Getting there ;-)

G'day guys, been a long time since I posted here....my build got put on the back burner for a bit as I was too busy with my normal day to day business.... but things have moved forward in the last couple of months... Got the hardtop cut and glued. will need to sort out a rear custom glass for it. Most of the rear cab closeout is done now just need to fill in the old wheel wheel panels. Got a Genrite tank for the back.

rear tray close to finished...
still need to sort out the roll cage in the back for the rear seat belts,
connect the gas tank and make a filler pipe,
Seconf Gas tank as the original had to come out.
extend the rear brake lines,
extend the rear lights and locker looms...
Custom Sliders etc.
Custom dump pipe and exhaust
still got lots of fiddly things to do....
LineX
then timber floor in the rear tray

Very cool build. You have provided some inspiration for me, I'm to a similar place in my build.
What gauge metal did you use for the old tailgate hole? Is it just box tubing and a outer skin with some beads rolled in?

the closeout was 1.2mm with a couple of bead roles in it. Here's a few more photos. The inside skin will be done in 2mm... overkill but the Roads Authority Engineers asked for it like that so that's what they'll get.

If you want anymore photos just let me know.

I appreciate the assistance. I kinda copied your design, and added a tailgate exhausters (1 for each side)
I'm using 20gauge (.8mm) and picked up a bead roller after seeing your post.
