Talking My Black Beauty Build

I am going to use this thread to collect my modifications on my 2014 Jeep JKU Sport. Comments and suggestions are welcome. My plan is to do the mods in such a way that I can return her to stock if I trade her in on a new Jeep and keep the majority of the addons to install on the new unit. If I keep her untill her paid out date, I will use the funds we now use on the loan to do the more serious mods.

03-23-2018, Had new windshield installed (1st one lasted 4 years), installed Pro Comp 7" led headlights, Anzo led front signal/parking lights, installed Sylvania led back up lights, (they are very weak in the light fixture so put the stock bulbs back in), removed the stock radio antenna and installed a .50 cal bullet antenna. Once I do some more research into the back up lights, I may reinstall or just replace the entire fixture with an led set.

04-08-2018, My hood latches were getting weak and I had a couple of serious flutters, so I installed the Rugged Ridge Hood Latches and a Bolt Hood Lock.

04-10-2018, Yesterday, I installed the rear seat lift kit (Bolts were a PITA) but got them cranked down, put in LED side marker lights (ripped the wiring out of the one side, and had to put the original one in until Monday when the new order comes in). Already completed the side marker flash wiring so these flash with the signals and lock/unlock flashes. Cleaned out the winter gear and installed Starling's Car Trunk Organizer and released my rear seat belt from around the headrest. cleaned up the wiring from my earlier installs. Just got my Jeep Waves sticker, just need to put it inside my windshield. And i exchanged the left button group from the standard non-evic one to the full group to allow me to control both the voice control and the phone control through my 430. More mods as I can slip them past the wife..

Yesterday, I Painted trim on my JKU Sport metallic purple with my daughter. Vents, speaker covers rear and tweeters, passenger handgrip, door trim and vent cover on rear gate. The wife is not too interested in the colour, but I like it. Yes I am colour blind. My daughter picked the. Paint colour to match what I liked.

I did finally get my LED side marker lights to flash with my signal lights. I had to replace some wire and then I secured it all up.

I have paint peeling off one of my door hinges that I think is from Galvanic corrosion. I have been thinking of painting the hinges purple to match the trim pieices. Just need to do them one at a time and seal off the underside of the hinges. Any comments or suggestions would be welcome.

I just had all eight of my door hinges replaced by my dealership. They color matched and had them clear coated to match my JK. The Shop Foreman showed me the paperwork and the price was about $2000.00 CDN for the hinges, I don't know about the paint matching but it cost the dealership about $3000.00 total for this repair. I'm really glad I have the extended warranty.

Last Tuesday, the Service Manager called me to ask if I would pay for the Paint (clear coat) as I already had the benefit of the repairs, and the paint coverage was denied so his department would have to pay for the work, and suggested that if I pushed my claim with my extended warranty, they may deny the whole amount. I discussed with him the fact that a) they already gave me my paperwork on the repair with a zero balance owed. I informed him I could do nothing this month, next month may be a possibility.

After I hung up, I called FCA Customer Service, and I had a case opened up. I informed the agent about the discussion with the dealership, going over the warranty information with her. She tried to say that the painting should maybe not be covered by my warranty. I then asked her if my JK was any other color than Black, they would have to paint the hinges before installation anyway? She agreed with my point of view and said she would contact the dealership.

After the dealership replaced my door hinges with new hinges (with the divider on them) painted and gave me my receipt for $0.00 owed, they called me a couple days later and asked me to pay for the paint costs of about $500.00. I told them it should be covered under my extended warranty and that I would contact FCA Canada to provide this information to them. 19 June 2018

Today. I just got off the phone with FCA Canada, they looked into this and apparently, none of the replacement or paint should have been covered, but since they did get authorization for the new hinges, they would be covered, but the painting would not. Now I'll make payment arraignments with the dealership to cover the paint, because Stettler Dodge and RV has always been very good to me as a customer.
Just to let everyone know that this repair is NOT normally covered (at least in Canada).
