So being a big fan of @Buildit Rubicon build I have to being sucked into a couple of his mods. Now we are putting his reviews to the test! Just kidding...

So I have the Tera 44 front axle and high steer knuckles. This combination along with the beefy Steer Smarts Yeti components allow little room for a steering stabilizer. I haven't been running one for the last 2 years and it drives fine but I do wonder at times what I would gain if I did? Would I gain any drivability? Would it take a little bit of the hit out of the steering wheel when hitting square edged bumps? Would the steering still center well and have a relatively light feel?
To be honest I have had stabilizers in the past so I know what I am in for somewhat. I ran the Fox ATS with my previous axle. I even purchased the Falcon Nexus 2.2 to run on this axle but I just couldn't get it to fit with the steering components. To be honest it looked a little vulnerable with the thru shaft and adjustment knob as well. So that one sits on the shelf. Then my buddy Buildit posts up the new Steer Smarts HD-N stabilizer that has been specifically tuned for use with their Griffin attenuator. The physical size of it is fairly small in comparison to the big Nexus and the mounting is something I think I can make work with my front axle. Buildit gave it a pretty good review and considering that I trust his opinion I pulled out my bankcard and ordered one up.

So has Buildit duped me? I'm not sure yet, I haven't had the chance to drive it. I have a couple small things I am trying to get done to it that keeps it in the shop. But, I am happy to say that it is installed and everything clears as it should. I'll let you know my feelings as soon as I pull it out out of the shop.

I also have a sad story to share with everyone. I was a man.. A man alone in the dark with his Jeep. And that Jeep had a light bar. A glorious single row 50" light bar that lit up the dark like I turned on the sun. But that light bar had a weakness.. An Achilles heel you might say. And that Archilles heel looked like this.

Now the weakness was not easy to find. This Jeep had survived many a storm with that light bar. It had been off the paved surfaces and driven through flooding rains. It had survived the no touch car washes and not a hint of water ever dared to show it's face behind the polished polycarbonate lense. Until, of course, one fateful day I found it's champion of destruction. It was bright green and so harmless. All in the name of maintenance. A clean Jeep is a happy Jeep I was once told but in this case it was NOT true. In its unassuming form, so helpless, so quiet... But a gallon of gas and a pull on a string and let the tears rain!

So yes... I powerwashed water into my light bar. To be honest it was a Chinese bar anyway. Pretty high quality compared to some I have seen and it lasted nearly 3 years. It was FRIGGAIN bright too! A real shame it happened. The problem? It would not come apart! All the small screws were corroded to the aluminum housing and as I took the bar apart I found a lot of Chinese manufacturing in it, if you know what I mean. So yes.. This bar made it to the trash can. It's sad but have no worries as this story has a happy ending after all. A VERY happy ending.

I love the look of the original KC type lights. Big round housings and in your face aesthetics. But this is 2018 after all and a set of chrome housings containing archaic filament bulb technology was not going to find a way onto my JK. I wanted something current, high quality, leading edge technology, low current draw, etc... Only one LED bar really filled the gap between old and new and yes, it is still a KC product.

So here it is... My Happy Ending! (Insert Joke Here) I love the look and quality of the product. I fit my brackets well, I love the adjustability of the bar as far as having the option to mount it straight or curved and it's not fair to claim how bright it is yet since I don't have any night shots but it is bright! We have to get it outside on a dark long road, get it aimed a bit and take some shots with it but I am pretty sure I am going to stay VERY happy!

Now let me share another sad story. A story that I am not sure has a happy ending. A story of a bank account.......

Love the new look!!! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

There is so much awesome in that sentence I hate you for typing it! Okay, it might just be a jealous rage but be it known it is directed at YOU!

I look forward to getting it out in the dark and seeing what it can do.

Ha Ha.. That's how Steven did it to me... Just a couple posts on his thread then.. $$$

At least it isn't all that expensive compared to the rest of the stuff we do to our Jeeps.

Lol...just trying to inform!

Sorry to be the one to push you over the edge Jeff. To Rich's point, this mod is one of the cheaper ones...

So I figured I would let you off the hook.. That drum roll has been going on awhile now. Your arms must be killing!

So the stabilizer... I have roughly 100 miles driving the Jeep after the install and..... I like it! I actually like it a lot. I don't know about the special tuning and all that but it has noticeably smoothed out the steering over bumps. It hasn't affected the ease of turning or the steerings ability to self center. It's a nice addition to the rest of their steering and I will now have to admit to Buildit that it was worth the $$$.

This was able to fit into my steering nicely. The Steer Smarts tie rod clamp (sold separately) weighs about 5 lbs by itself. It is a machine billet steel piece. Not anodized aluminum like some others on the market. The stabilizer boot is a little gimmicky but I have Gecko green stickers all over my Jeep so gimmicky is ok with me. I have high steer knuckles so space to add a stabilizer without it being the first thing to contact off road is tough. A small unit like this tucked right in between the tie rod and drag link where I am unable to fit a Fox ATS or even the Teraflex Falcon Nexus 2.2 I have.

Overall I guess I am forced to back Buildit's recommendation and also am willing to endorse the Steer Smarts HD-N steering stabilizer. It works as advertised!

I have had a couple people message me to ask me about the Bushwacker Aluminum flat fenders I run. So I am going to leave this here for anyone else.

Would I buy them again? Yes, in a second!

Here are a couple pics to give you an idea of the width of the fenders. Mind you I run a wheel with 4.5" backspacing and a 37 x 13.5 Nitto.

Look down the side of the Jeep.

Front fender width.

Rear fender width.

Liked the fenders so much I went straight to Amazon and hit the "buy now" button. Felt the same about the lights but sticker shock brought me around! They're nice, and at almost 20K lumens I'll bet they're bright! But I'll have to get another job before those find their way to my shop.

Fenders should be here by Thursday so I'll have something to do next weekend!

The lights were a tough one to swallow but my replacement was going to be a Rigid, Baha or other quality light. At that price point the KC lights were right in line with a lmore classic ook I liked a little better than just the extruded aluminum light bar.

You will like the fenders! They are a nice upgrade from stock or the BW plastic flats. As good as the PS parts they copy.

So here we go!!! I think this is finally going to happen... Come on LS3 and 6L80E!

But first... I know.. Just a slight delay!

While I have the center of my shop open I wanted to do a couple small things to it before I pull the drivetrain and it becomes an anchor. Unfortunately, like anything else, nothing goes to plan.

I wanted to install the Poison Spyder trail cage and color match the Tuffy security center console I installed over the summer. To do this and to just make some room in general I pulled the front seats and carpets. When I pulled the front carpets they looked kind of moldy on the bottom and stunk! So to the trash they went. Picked up a set of Bed Rug front and back as a replacements. This of course required me to strip the entire interior. So my Jeep now looks like this.

So since the interior is out I am getting the rollcage in. I just started the install of those parts and have only managed to get the 2 A pillar supports in. At least so far everything is lining up and falling into place.

But before I get too far with it I have been ignoring the fact that the heater core is partially clogged (never ends does it?) So now that I have the interior out I am going to pull the dash and replace the heater core. It's a massive pain but no time like the present to do it. Heater core replacement looks a lot like this!

During this process I was thinking about spraying the floors, tranny tunnel, firewall and rear inner tire wells with a ceramic heat insulation and sound absorber like the Lizard Skin makes. I would just put the product where it is most useful and not the entire interior. I still want the Bed Rug down but a cooler and quieter ride isn't a bad thing.

Then last but not least I'm swapping the rear end housings. Time to get the one I fabbed up installed. I was supposed to install this months ago! This will make it a roller so I can push it over into the corner and tear out the motor and transmission for the swap! Then my Jeep is DONE!! Hahaha... Ok.. Maybe not. But lets just say done for now.

It's gonna be AWESOME! And the bed rug is a nice product. I put it in my YJ a couple of years ago and it still looks like new. Good stuff !

I can't wait. It's been a year waiting to do this. It will probably be Feb when the motor swap will happen but it's going to happen!
You know the scene in the movie Better Off Dead when John Cusac backs the Camaro out of the garage after the French foreign exchange girl helps him rebuild it? That's what this will feel like this spring! Haha.. Can't wait!

Ya.. The second job might be right around the corner. The wife says she wants to go back to Disney World in a couple months because she considers picking out a Christmas tree ornament at Magic Kingdom a Christmas tradition with my daughter now! Haha.. She has done it every year for the last 6 years (my daughter is 4) and doesn't want to skip it. I've also committed to shipping the Jeep out to Colorado for a Ouray to Moab trip next September already, so by any chance... you hiring?

Quick update here. Getting ready to mount my tires on the beadlocks. Just waiting for the rings to come back.. I am having them anodized blue. Should be done tomorrow. Look forward to seeing how they come out! I'll post up a pic as soon as I see them.

Spent some time in the shop tonight and got the cage fitted. Have to check the fitment to the door surrounds and top. If all good then move on to the spray heat and sound insulation, Bed Rug and interior. Then onto the rear axle housing and finally... THE LS SWAP!

Rich, your attention to detail that you are applying to your build makes it really special. Keep up the great work

Thank you Steven! Coming from you that carrys some weight!

I feel sometimes like I'm taking two steps forward and one step back. Everytime I do something it requires me to adjust something I did previously. For example adding the cage is forcing me to rerun some of my wiring for things like my ARB Twin air compressor. But we will get there!

The drivetrain is getting yanked sooner than I anticipated. I've got about six guys from the club that are pushing me to start doing it now. They don't want any excuses like last year. They want LS power under the hood!

Yes! Do it. Its much easier then anyone realizes. You will have it done before you know it. Ask me anything you need help with. I say "Get it done".

You sound like my buddies! Haha... I'm not anticipating much trouble just time crunches. I run a company and 70-hour weeks is fairly normal for me. That's what stopped me last year. We had a big client we had to deliver a machine to and everybody in the company averaged 85 to 90 hours a week for over 6 months!

But for sure this year we will Get It Done!

BTW.. did you race the 5.3ls swapped JK again yet?

I totally understand where you are coming from. I own a landscaping company and we certainly have our times where I have zero free time. Usually winter is slower for us, but not always.

I have not raced the LT5.3 yet. I can't wait to do it. Its just been hard to get our schedules to line up long enough to make it happen. I think it would be very close. Those Gen V 5.3's have crazy torque. I have 50-60 HP on him, but it doesn't feel like it from the seat.
