Thanks Steve!

Those are the Core 4X4 arms. I have been running them 2 years or more now. Some of the best powdercoating I have ever seen! The bottom of the lowers are all chewed up but other than that they have been awesome!

Took another Jeep into the shop for a quick overhaul.

2013 JKU Rubicon 10th Anniversary.
Currently on an RK 3.5” lift with 37s. Owner wants to change it up a touch. This is what we are doing to it...

King pin Dana 60 front and 14 Bolt rear trussed and set up for 3 link front and rear. Custom 3 link suspension using 2” DOM and all HD flex joints. 4.5” Rear stretch with custom corner rear armor and a comp cut. Lift set at roughly 4.5” with 42” MTRs on BattleBorn beadlocks. 1350 driveshafts, hydro assist, custom high steer steering and a new Poison Spyder front bumper and a rear bumper delete.

We got going on this a week ago and currently have the Jeep stripped, all the control arm, track bar, bump stop brackets removed and the frame cleaned up front and rear. We pulled the exhaust and gas tank to make room for so many activities. Bumpers removed, the steering box pulled, ported and reinstalled. The 14 bolt and Dana 60 are in the shop but we have some work to do before we can slide them under. Once we get them in place we can start making decisions on control arm mounts and lengths.

So ya... going to be fun!

Hey Stephen,

So like the rest of us the funds on this build aren’t endless so For right now he staying with a MC coil and a set of conventional shocks with 14” of travel. I think the plan is to run it like that this year and save up for some 16” ORI shocks with some custom towers to mount them. I think that’s about a $5000 -$6000 nut all by itself.

Yeah, I get that. When you get to that level of building, everything moves in $5000 increments. None the less, it's going to be impressive as h$$ as it evolves. Keep us posted.

Update on the side project.... I have the JKU completely stripped and ready for all new suspension to be welded in. The axles have been stripped of any brackets that aren't necessary, modified for the new 3 links and the trusses were completely welded in which the previous owner didn't do. Clearly he was afraid to weld cast... I always give everything a good cleaning and I'm glad I did this time as well. The 14 year old 14 bolt had a pile of metal chips in it from machining the housing! We have everything set under the Jeep and spot welded in the lower and upper control arm mounts so that we can get an idea for control arm lengths to order the DOM. Everything is coming together nicely! Ought to be a BEAST on the 42s!

Here is a pic of the metal I removed from the 14 bolt axle housing. 14 years this axle was in service for!

Just went and read the thread. I have a 2009 JKU Rubicon. Last December I drove from Tennessee to my place in the foothills west of Boulder CO. I was towing a small trailer with my 4wheeler in it and it was a dog and averaged 10 miles a gallon for 1200 miles. I am putting a HEMI in my TJ and I wanted to do something different. I was talking to a friend in the Jeep club in Longmont CO and he suggested looking at the LS swap. Been researching the swap and discovered the 6l80 trans and decided that was the way to go. Im still waffling on the engine, looks like a lot of caddy escalade motors on Ebay but a lot of 5.3 engine at good prices. I do want a good freeway cruiser but its going to be my primary wheeler as its set up to tow behind the motorhome and I plan on doing a lot of traveling. Plus the wife actually wont drive the TJ and doesnt like getting in and out of it. I am going with MoTech for the swap kit, and probably do the swap this fall after I build a shop so I can have a lift.

So I have a little update on the side project and don’t be disappointed as I have made big strides on the LS swap and everything else involved in the Nemesis upgrades. I will handle that in a separate MOAP (Mother Of All Posts) in a few days.

So here we go...

Project Rabid Badger is coming along nice! The longarm mounts are spot welded in, The control arms are made and the one ton axles are mounted under the Jeep. We have cycled the suspension and found a couple small adjustments we need to look at. We stretched the rear 5 inches and now the three link mount on the top of the truss interferes with a cross member so we need to notch that but no big deal. In the front the track bar mount needs to be relocated as well. With that done there should be no other suspension travel issues. I machined the rear hubs for the tone rings and modified the axle flanges and backing plates for the wheel speed sensors. Got this all back together and bolted the wheels on. The Jeep now sits on 42s under its own weight. Plenty of work left to do but a milestone I am happy to eclipse. It’s going to be a beast!

I have to admit that I was looking at 6.0 and 6.2L engines as well when I first started this journey. What snapped me out of that was a big Chevy Surburban I rented. It had great pickup, could go from 70-85 pretty effortlessly and I thought to myself if my Jeep drove like this I would be thrilled. I popped the hood and there was the little 5.3 sitting there. My mind was made up!

Plus I could always supercharge it! Hahaha....

Little update on the side project...

All the fab work and hard stuff is done. ARB lockers and 5.38s in the Dana 60 and 14B axles. Everything is painted and the final assembly process is in full swing. Should be on the tires and off the jack stands finally. I’ll have to remember how to fuel it up... hmmmm. As much fun as it’s been I’m happy to see the project coming to an end!

This JKU has front and rear 3 link with a rear 5” stretch! This will be sitting on 42” tires and only 3.5” lift! It has been a lot of trimming, modified the frame crossmembers for clearance and a lot of time went into stripping and cleaning the frame so that everything still looks factory quality.

14B and 60 patterns. The 60 was supposed to be good to go. I opened it up and found someone had hacked up big time. The carrier had no preload on the bearings and was wobbling around. There were broken ring gear teeth. Signs of overheating on the pinion gear teeth and no shims anywhere on the pinion gear other than the slinger and baffles. This drove the full rebuilds on both axles with a regear and lockers. Glad the owner had the $$$ to go ahead and do it now. That wasn’t in the original plan for right now.
