T-Rom's Two-Door

Figured I'd throw up a post for my build! This is my first Wrangler and I love it. Got it used in May with 60k miles. 2012 JK in Black. Currently in college, so I'm working a lot this summer to pay for stuff for it. Trying to go for a very clean look. So here goes nothing!

(side note: if anyone can think of a name lmk - still struggling on that one)

Here's what it looked like when it was purchased a few months back:

Came with Weathertech front floor mats - nice little touch. Now I am not a fan of chrome to say the least, so getting rid of any and all chrome was high up on my priority list. The side steps were the first one to be fixed. Removed them and replaced the rusty bolts, took off the rubber steps, scuffed and bedlined them. I know these aren't the best for off-roading but eventually I'll upgrade to some rock rails that can act as a step.

Here you can see the steps after bedlining and reinstalling. Months later they still look good! Only one spot I had to touch up that I missed initially. Also pictured are the Rugged Ridge side mirrors I added to go topless Not pictured here is the mesh grille I added. Went the DIY route and it looks great! Had to fix it once as the epoxied mounts came undone but now that's good. Next obvious issue was the wheels. I picked up a set of stock 17" alloy wheels off of Craigslist and swapped them on. The dealer I bought the Wrangler from torqued the lug nuts down so tight I had to take them to a shop - and even the shop was cursing the dealership! It was at the shop I found out that I had chrome wheel covers installed. Oh well, I wanted bigger wheels anyways! You can see the wheels in the picture above too.

Next up - interior stuff. I taped over those unsightly mirror warning stickers. Added grab handles, gas cap cover, Quadratec Diver Down seat covers and a Tuffy security deck. Here you can see the grab handles:

(this post is making me realize I don't have enough pics! - once it's all done I'll take full pics of everything)

Next up - new tires. I'm getting a 2.5" lift, and with 3.21 gears and an auto I didn't want to go too crazy - running 285/70/R17, so a little under 33". I went with the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W. Had good reviews and a good price and I've loved them so far! Black lettering was a plus.

Also see the new lug nuts I got here. Stock lugs are crap and have plastic covers, so I ordered one piece black lugs off Amazon. Working great so far.
I only got 4 tires as I'm still in college and wanted to use the extra money to put towards other things. The stock spare is close enough in size that it'll work in a pinch if I need a spare. So to cover this I got a spare tire cover to match my school. GO TIGERS! National champs baby!

Took forever to arrive but I love it so far.

Along the way this summer I found a nasty smell in the Jeep. Couldn't get rid of it for the life of me. Narrowed it down to the hard top. After cutting, washing, and wondering for days, I finally found the culprit. I fell victim to the deadly mice hard top attack! Somehow one got in and died in there, so I had to cut some to rinse it out and remove the mouse but now I'm good to go. No smell is a good smell these days

Didn't have a hitch on my Jeep when I bought it, so I picked up an OEM one off Craigslist for $40. Came with a spare rear bumper so I'm covered in case of an accident I guess?!

Removed the front plastic air dam because it was rubbing some with my tires. I would rubbing at full lock so I got a pair of RedRock 1.5" wheel spacers to put on. After adding these I was getting a strange vibration when driving. Didn't realize I needed to remove the rotor retaining clips before installing, so a Saturday morning fixed that up and now I have a nice wider stance.

To fix the seat belts flapping in the wind and smacking, I bought a pack of shoulder belt pads off Amazon and put them on. Problem solved.

To fix the whistle with the quick-release mirrors, I added a strip of electrical tape around the edge and that was good to go as well!

My Jeep came with a hard top and a Trektop NX from the dealer. I like the extra security of the hard top for school, and didn't see myself switching them out that often. I also didn't like you couldn't fully put the Trektop down. So, I sold it to finance some other stuff.

Touch up paint was applied along the way to fix up some old scratches from the previous owner.

I have also added Daystar Hood Wrangler latches. I read about hood flapping after removing the air dam, so for $20 it was an easy fix.

An AEV Procal was purchased to fix the speedo after putting on the 33's, and to disable TPMS as the new wheels I purchased didn't have the sensors. The Procal is so stupidly easy to use. I love it!

Then I needed some extra lights. I've fallen out of love with the 50" light bars so I went for something a little more discrete.

Purchased off of Amazon. I resealed them with extra silicone so hopefully they last longer. I also painted the housing of the rear ones black because NO CHROME!!!! They are crazy bright and still work great. Wiring was a bitch running to the back bumper, harnesses not being long enough, trim not pulling up to run wires, you get the gist. But they're on! The rear ones didn't sit 100% flush so I sealed the edges to prevent water from getting into the bumper. These are run to a Rugged Ridge lower dash switch mount panel. I love how clean and OEM the panel looks. Opted for the KC side pillar mounts instead of mounting on the front of the A-panel. I really like these mounts because when I'm driving the lights are hidden behind the pillars and don't obstruct my view. I don't like that the stubby antenna is in front of the right light but oh well. At some point I want to upgrade to a better brand of lights. When turned on they create some interference that kills radio reception.

At some point I removed the side sticker badges - I only like stickers when I put them on for some reason....

Added polyfill to the speakers and flipped the mirror from the "cheap mods" thread. Polyfill has been a slight improvement, and the mirror helped a lot!

I have purchases a Teraflex 2.5" lift with Rancho 5000x shocks and AEV geometry correction brackets. The shocks were painted black to match the Jeep, and look great now. This will be put on soon and then I'll be really rocking

I will be painting the exhaust and wheels black after the lift is installed too. Gotta make it clean and have it all match!

Well the shop has messed up my lift two times now. Hopefully I'll fix it up myself this weekend and can post pics of it finished. So much work...

She's done! (for now)

Got the Teraflex 2.5" lift kit with Rancho RS5000x shocks and AEV geo correction brackets installed. Also painted the wheels black, painted shocks black, and painted the muffler black. Looking slick!

Since last time I've ended up getting a bunch more stuff. Got caught in the rain once with the top off so invested a permanently-stored tarp (just in case lol). On top of that, I've added hard-top quick release screws, a Spiderwebshade that's now off for the winter, Rugged Ridge phone mount, fixed a broken headrest sleeve, easy-on door pins, Delrin door hinge bushings, heated seats, and a CB antenna radio mount on the spare tire. Prepping for a lot of new projects!

Went with the Opar grab handles to replace my other ones. Makes getting into the Jeep way easier.

Also upgraded the Rugged Ridge phone mount to be magnetic. The stock clip it came with was too flimsy and my phone kept popping out. So, I ordered just the base magnetic mount off of Amazon and it fit right onto the 17mm ball joint from the phone mount base. Phone stays put now, and I'm finally done fussing with finding a good mount.

Ordered seat heaters off of Amazon, and installed under my seat covers so no destroying the factory seats. Wired them up to my lower dash panel with 3 position switches from Rugged Ridge. Messed up the wiring so I'll need to redo those over Christmas break.

Finally invested in a torque wrench too so that's made things a lot easier. Next up on the to-do list is install the JKS Quicker Disconnects I picked up for $100 off Amazon and re-wire everything I have with an aux panel from Rogue26 over in the marketplace section. Then after that it's front bumper, CB radio, steering stabilizer, and adjustable track bar. Christmas list is very full this year

Got the 77KICK10 upgraded speakers installed today. The old ones feel like junk compared to these. Now I know they aren't top of the line, but for $120 for all four speakers I can't complain at all. There's actually some bass now and it just sounds way better all around. For how much music I listen to in the Jeep, I wish I would have done this earlier!

Ordered a ton of parts so these will be going in soon:

Rancho steering stabilizer
Superlift front track bar
KC Slimlite spot lights
CB radio & fm antenna relocation
JKS quicker disconnects
N-fab nerf steps

Gonna be a fun Christmas break
Pressurized likes this.

Had a busy last few days. Started re-wiring EVERYTHING. Thanks to Rogue26 again for his awesome panels. Swapped out my LED lights in front for some KC Slimlites cause I prefer the look of them. Also put on the N-Fab nerf steps I got for a hell of a deal (half off!), loving them so far. Deleted my FM antenna and replaced it with a CB antenna, and installed a Cobra 75 CB radio at the same time. My FM reception actually INCREASED! I fixed up the wiring mistakes from before (knock on wood, something will probably fall apart tomorow lol) but now I have seat heaters with high/low on the outside switches, front lights, rear lights, and an extra switch for lower bumper lights whenever I add them.

Not too bad! I was in the process of rewiring all my lights so I can't give an accurate estimate on time. But all-in-all, not bad - I'd say the hardest part was tucking everything away so the wires were hidden. Had to trim a little bit of carpet on the passenger side so it would lay flat.

Finally figured out a name for my Jeep - Murphy, after Murphy's Law

Installed a Superlift adjustable rear track bar yesterday. The left bolt hole wouldn't line up so I spent 3 hours trying to get it to fit. Then had issues with the bolt hitting the spring on the driver's side. It's done now finally... lol... Also upgraded to grade 8 shouldered hardware.

Also created a carpet cover for the rear. It runs up to the seats and actually creates a little space underneath so I can store jackets, umbrella, etc. without it taking up trunk space. And, it's invisible to anyone walking by when I have the top off.

Got pics of both attached, plus a bonus pic of the Jeep from Carolina Beach Jeep Go Topless Day this past weekend! (it rained all day which is why the top is on)

Pretty simple additions today. Had these LED lights from earlier and took them off for the KCs, but decided I could put them to use. Mounted on the front bumper and tie into the last switch on my panel.

Also extended the breather tubes for both of my diffs. Really easy and less than $8 in materials!

Yeah that's the only thing I wish I had. It sucks cause I can't use my wireless charger with the magnet plate in my case, but until I find a solution that won't cost me an extra $50+ dollars I'll spring for it.

Wanted to add a quick update to my build progress.

Added a Tuffy security glovebox, which I love and haven't had any rattling issues like others. Also moved my CB antenna to the left side of the tailgate for more clearance when opening the glass. Finally settled on a cheap phone attachment for my Rugged Ridge panel (and now I can usee wireless charging again!)

And finally, added a mobile ham radio and antenna.
