Taking it to the next level...

I've had my 2007 JK 2 door Sport for a couple of years. It came with a Teraflex 2.5" coil lift & 9550 shocks when I bought it but pretty much everything else was stock. Since that time I've added front and rear bumpers, winch, disconnects, all new LED lighting front to back & a new grill. Jeep has done surprisingly well wheeling but it's time to go to the next phase of mods. I just about have all my packages here so if it would just stop raining I could get to tearing her apart and getting started.

Suspension/steering - Going to leave my Tereflex coils in for now. Gonna see how it sits once all the armor is on and how much clearance I have. Thinking I'm gonna be OK though with 37's. Bought Synergy non-adjustable lower control arms for the front & back..run the stock uppers in the rear for now but got new bushings to press in. Got Billstein 5100's and their steering stabilizer. From there went with Synergy front & rear adjustable track bars, drag link, & upper track bar braces. Was thinking about the sector shaft bracket but decided to leave that one alone. Heard a lot of horror stories about the bearings failing. Wrap the steering up with Rough Stuff's 1 ton tie rod w/ GM tre's. Also picked up their differential covers which I have to say are built for war!

Rears - At the moment I'm going to stick with the Dana 30 in the front...I know, I know...37's. I've read and researched a lot on this. If/when I break something I'll move on to most likely a prorock 44. With all the crap I bought it's just too much to go there this time around. For the time being though I bought JCR's full truss kit, C gussets, & lower skids. Gonna yank the rear, sandblast it, and get all that welded up. Bought some new Spicer HD u-joints and will leave the stock axles in for now. Being the weak point if I snap one it's an easy fix. Loading both rears with Yukon 5.13's, Grizzly lockers, & master rebuild kits. As a few extra's ordered new front hub assembly's, 4 drilled rotors/pads, Ten Factory axle seals, & Alloy USA ball joints.

Once that's all done I have the Smittybilt XRC fenders waiting in boxes so I have to get those put on. Heard the backs are kind of a pain in the ass with the nutserts but whatever...not my first rodeo.

Last but not least picked up 5 Black Rhino Armory wheels in black. Kind of unsure on tires at the moment but I was looking at Cooper Discoverer STT Pro's in 37X12.5/17. If anyone has these would love some input.

Here's how she sits now...more pics to follow during this process.

Definitely sounds like it is ready for war! I wish I had that kind of determination.

For the record, I got $900 on the classifieds here for my D30 with gussets, 4.56 and Eaton eLocker. Course, I spent a couple grand or more for the gears and locker.

Just letting you know what to expect when you go to sell your D30. Although you probably won't do as well since 5.13s in a D30 are not a high-demand item.

Good luck.

I'm running the 37x12.5 R17 and love them! I thought about 5.13 in my dana 30, but after seeing the pinion size of my 4.88's, I'm kinda glad I didn't. I think I'm going to truss my axle this spring/summer too, just to be safe. Your build is going to be awesome!

Yeah man now I'm thinking about just gearing the D30 and putting a locker in the D44. This way I don't have too much money wrapped up in the D30 and can go with a D44 in the future when money permits. Don't want to spend too much money in this axle knowing that i will need to upgrade in the future. As soon as this rain stops here in TX I'm going to get it torn down and weld the truss up so I can get it all put together! Chomping at the bit with all these parts sitting here!

Well got the rear out and pulled the ball joints and lower control arm bushings at the axle. BJ's & bushings were a total PITA! They were pretty much rusted stuck but I managed to get them out with a torch and a BFH. Tomorrow going to sand blast the rear and weld up the truss, gussets, & lower CA skids.

Ok getting ready to start welding. One thing I noticed was there are tons of areas that are not even welded. Spots on the shock mounts control arm mounts, track bar mount, ect. Going to go back and make sure everything is totally welded for good measure. After that I'll start on the truss. Turns out JCR sent me the wrong gussets and lower skid plates so trying to sort that out.

Not too much to report today. Been waiting for the rain to clear so I can paint the underside of the truss parts and areas they will cover before I weld it on. Think I can finally get to some of that today.

But...Rough Stuff diff covers and 1 ton tie rod came back from the powder coater today...whatcha think! Pretty nice red IMO.

Finally got some primer sprayed on the D30, knuckles, & inside of the truss pieces tonight. Everything will be painted black & then cleared but I wanted to get some paint on the inside of the truss before I weld it on so it doesn't rust on the inside.

Shoot a little black paint tomorrow & then go to town on getting the truss, gussets, & LCA skids welded up. Hopefully have the rear all finished up within a few days so I can start putting the front end back together.

Also pulled the trigger on some Synergy 3" springs front & back...brown truck delivered those today. Give me a little extra lift for those 37s.

Thanks!

The D30 is all but done now. Have it all painted up. Just need to install the ball joints & LCA bushings and it can be installed back in. Going up to a cabin in OK this weekend to chill out with the kids but once I get back it's all going back together so a lot more to follow!

Alright then...back from vaca and back to work on this! Got the upper control arm bushings, ball joints, & axle seals installed. Ain't she purdy?! I'll tell you what...I've watched videos on the ball joints and people make it look so easy! Not mine...they were a royal pain in the ass to get out and in. Having issues with the drive shaft u-joints too. Beginning to hate anything pressed in or out lol. Bolted up the Synergy lower non-adjustable CA's...they are beefy as hell! Leaving the uppers stock for now but I did swap in new bushings.

Tonight I need to plug in the wheel bearing wires, install the shocks, & springs. Then drill out the knuckles for the 1 ton tie rod and get them mounted. Like to see it all back together within a couple of days so I can go get the tires mounted but we'll see.

Thx! Appreciate it. Been a lot of work but the hard stuff is done. Front is all back together minus the steering stabilizer. Took it for a short spin and surprisingly it didn't seem out of alignment all that much and drove really smooth.

Going to get the adjustable rear track bar, new springs, shocks, & new brakes/rotors swapped in tonight hopefully then I'll post some pics. Got an appointment with Discount this coming Tuesday to get the tires & rims put on and then it's off to get gears and lockers.

When it's all done I have the Smittybilt XRC armor fenders sitting here in boxes so that will be the last thing to put on and then I'm done....well, for now lol.

Excited!

Well last day to see her like this. Everything is all done and off to go get the rims & tires put on tomorrow morning. Then I have an appointment on 4/2 to get the gears installed. Last thing will be the fender install. Kind of looks funny with the lift and small tires. Rides great though just need an alignment.

Absolutely love the stance and height. Have the gears, new front/rear driveshafts, & diff covers going on in about a week or so then it will get up and go much better. 3.21's are no bueno with 37s LOL. What ya'll think?

When I weld trusses on I was concerned as well about not painting inside the truss and it rusting but then I thought about this product from Eastwood. I have used it every time I weld a truss on a vehicle and no rust issues yet. Works great and you can use it after you weld!
