Marty's 2003 Rubicon Build (Daily driver/Expedition Rig)

Purchased this 2003 Rubicon recently which was owned by a lady who was the original owner. The body needs quite a bit of work but the frame is in excellent shape with no rust inside and no scale, just some surface rust. All lockers work and it drives great! Mechanically this Jeep is in great shape. Structurally the tub needed repairs but was not too far gone.

I plan to do a frame off restoration on this. All the surface rust spots will be sandblasted, and anything that is rusted through will be cut out and new metal welded in. Then, everything will be blasted again and coated in a rust encapsulator followed by an oil spray.

This Jeep will be a daily driver/expedition and camping rig. It will receive A VW diesel engine to achieve the 25+ mpg I'd like to have and will have a 4.5" lift kit with 35" tires. I am by no means going for showroom quality and just want a rust free functioning rig, but at the same time I do want it to look like a clean build once it's done.

Anyway, I only mentioned the main things as I have lots of plans for this that I'll mention throught the build. I'm hoping that you guys will follow me as I progress through it. I'll also be getting an Instagram account specifically for the build. Look it up under "Marty's Jeep build"

Following as well. I hope to have a similar project soon if the stars will just align! Especially interested in your plan to repower it.
