our TJ 2002 adventure

Hi ya'll,
My wife and me moved to the US last year. We are both from Germany. We both are world travelers, have been in many countries. Additionally I travel a lot for work. For now and near future my company has concentrated activities in North america, so my wife and I grabbed the chance and moved over. We exchanged busy metropolitan life with beautiful Virginia countryside!
For myself, I'm a car enthusiast as long as I live. I still own a vintage Porsche back in Europe. For the last 10+ years I had different Porsches, up to Gt3, Spyder.. but also (still there) Amg C63... Here in the US I drive a Raptor to work which I traded for an ugly Explorer. Sorry to say, but its not so easy to get adjusted to average modern US cars for me.

However, last year I was in the market for a cheap car for my wife to start with. My warehouse manager (who is also trading cars for a living) came to me and showed me a picture of a ruby red 2002 TJ. It clicked immediately and I bought it for 5k. My wife is totally in love with her!
Yes, this was naive.
Yes, it will cost us much more than that.
But I don't give a S$%t.

This car is basically our first car since we moved and even if we have to go back to Europe I have plans taking it back home.

Back to the real world with open eyes,

I'm fighting rust like crazy.
Leakages everywhere.
191k ODO and check engine light once in a while.

I already replaced the soft top for a spice colored Rough Country one. Looks good but I don't think this is close to OEM. It only cost me 250bucks and looks great, lets see how it will look after the winter.

We just got it back from the maintenance to fix the leakages.
In two weeks she goes back in the shop for:
1. frame repair
2. Rhino lining inside

Speaking about inside,
My wife wants to drive roof down as much as possible. Of course it will hit the rain once in a while. My idea is to Rhino line everything, leave the factory plugs open and get some vinyl seats. Is that good enough or do did I forgot something???

After this is done I'm planing to fix the interior and some smaller stuff. In the winter I consider repainting from outside. Lets see how that goes.

My Questions:
1. The seats are gone and worn out. Currently I'm eyeing the Bestop Trailmax II (in Spice). Any thoughts on that?
2.I also want to refurbish the middle console. The stuff I've seen online doesn't really look too good. I'm even thinking deleting the console. Has anyone a good advise for me? Once again, its going to be Rhino inside anyway.
3. Fog lights, I already upgraded the headlights with KC H4. I can't really say anything about it since she/I haven't driven the Jeep in the dark but I'll update that part ASAP. However, I took the factory Fog lights off because they didn't work. I do like the cleaner look better anyway. But of course I wouldn't mind fog lights. Any advise on that? I'm not planning to put aftermarket bumpers on. I also think that light bars wouldn't fit the classic built.

Thanks so far, I'm planning to throw in more and more details and pictures over time. I'm not a mechanic and don't have any possibility to do anything by myself. Hopefully I can get some good feedback and insights here.
I'm located in Richmond, Va btw.
Have a great day!

This is off topic, but if you are really into cars you should head up to Katie's Cars and Coffee in Great Falls Virginia. Lots of great stuff there ranging from old Ford GT40's up to the 720s.

Welcome to Jeep ownership Christoph. Once you get the rust and maintenance taken care of you will be good to go.

its been a while since my last comment...

Jeep is still around and better than ever. we have a lot of fun with her.

Updated suspension Rough Country 2.5in x series
plus lots of small items.

Right now we are working on the engine, I already have K&N and magnaflow catback system. Next stage is sprintex.

I'm not really happy with bodyroll. Can anyone recommend me something in addition to my upgrade?
