Sullivanís 98 TJ build

Hi guys, my name is Rusty Sullivan and Iím from a little town south of Tupelo, MS called Nettleton. Iím a diesel tech and the Mack/Volvo truck dealership in Tupelo were I have bee for 13yrs. Last July my home shop was complete and since this Iíve started a little business of my own called Sullivan Performance that I work on pickups, jeeps, SxS, and atvs in my spare time. I picked up this 1998 TJ 11/10/19. Iíve always wanted a Jeep but was never in a situation where I could buy one as an extra vehicle/toy. The Jeep is a 98 has the 4.0 with 5 speed and 3.73 Dana 30s. Had 140k miles on it when I picked it up.
This is the day I bought it

So far in the short time Iíve had it I have give it a good cleaning them swapped the wheels and tires to the jk rubicon 17Ē wheels and 265/70/17 Americus Rugged M/T tires using hub centric adapters. My tire store fixed me up with a good used spare tire for the back in the same size. Iíve also installed a set for smitty bilt seat covers, pioneer stereo, kicker 4x6 dash speakers, new front brake pads, new set of hard top bolts, new rear window shocks, and new wiper blades. Iíve also done an oil change and serviced the front differential fluid.

The Jeep came with a 2.5Ē RC lift(not really a fan of RC but Iíll run it for a while then upgrade) and front and rear smitty bilt bumpers. Plan on installing a smitty winch plate and 10000lb winch soon. Also want to add a set of smitty steps.

One thing I havenít seen or been able to find in a rubber floor covering. Like youíd see in a work truck. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find this? The Jeep is just bare metal floor now i donít want carpet but would like to have the rubber to help with noise and appearance. Any help is appreciated.

Went ahead and change the fluid in the trans, transfer case, and rear end this evening. Also took the light bar off the hod the previous owner had put on, never cared much for it. I will install a 12Ē bar in the middle of the front bumper when funds allow. Tomorrow the spare tire cover is supposed to be in along with a exhaust clamp for the muffler, thereís a u bolt type clamp on it now and itís leaking. Ordered one of the band style clamps to go on it and it that doesnít work Iíll just weld it.

Got a new 12Ē light bar in today and installed it on the bumper. Found enough stuff around the shop to make a 3rd brake light and installed it on the tire rack then ran the wires to the factory harness. Installed some roll bar grab handles and a metal one that came with the Jeep on the drivers side by the windshield, had to find a passenger side one to match, the brand is grab bars USA. Went ahead and mounted my streamlight to the console also. Full set of Quadratec floor linners shipped this week should be here mid week next week.

Went ahead and replaced both the upper and lower radiator hoses and coolant this evening. Only fluids left to change is clutch, brake, and power steering. Since there not black or discolored I may just left them alone. Replaced the hood rod catch also since it was missing. Hopefully my floor liners from Quadratec will be in tomorrow.

Floor liners came in this evening, seem to be made well and fit great. The liners came with free entry guards so I put them on as well. Also added some LED pod lights to the rear bumper and wired them into the reverse lights. Should be a great improvement at night while backing.

Found a open box Kicker hideaway powered sub at Best Buy $100 off! Got it installed this evening and I have to say, Iím impressed. Transfer case drop kit and new gear stick knob inbound. Want the driveline angels as close to stock as I can get them with the 2.5Ē lift Iíll drop it 1Ē. Pic of the little sub and I also put some basic hand tools in a old tool bag to leave in the Jeep.
