94 YJ build "cliff"

Well i decided that I should start a build thread for my 94 yj in hopes to keep myself motivated enough to not let it sit any longer.

I got my jeep in trade for a boat that I had about 6 months ago. The person I had gotten it from had bought it with intent of building it however he really just didnt have the mechanical background at all and it ended up sitting in his garage for a couple years. When I initially looked at it in his garage it was so crammed in there that I could barely see anything on it. He had told me that he was told it ran before he purchased it but had never heard it run himself. When I pulled it out of his garage I found out that the steering wasnt hooked up and the driveshaft was not in. It also came with a ton of "extra" parts, one of which was the rear axle that matched the current front axle. The rear axle that was in the jeep was a SOA. I decided that my best bet to make the jeep mobile was to change out the rear axle for the matched one. When i did that I found out that the driveshaft that I had would work however the u-joint is too wide for the notches on the yoke. I temporarily installed it anyway so it can move and until I figure out the solution. Next I had to install the steering box since that was not in. After hours of soaking in order to get the steering shaft to slide, i finally got all of the steering hooked up minus the power steering because I need one hose. I also at this time found out that I had a hole in the side of the oil pan, made from outside in. For the time being I jb welded the hole so that I could try to fire it up and with some slight tinkering, it kicked over and ran nice. I know the jeep isnt too pretty, but I have always wanted one and am really hoping to get this thing on the road before winter. The only real hangup to this is money is tight with having three kids but I will continue to push on and try to find my parts.

My current list of parts that I need are.
oil pan 4.0
tail cone for transfer case
radiator and fan
front driveshaft
windshield and frame
side mirrors

Hopefully I will dwindle that list down but so far I have not found any jeeps around and local salvage yards.

Also Im wondering if anybody can give me any information on the axle in the pic so that I can hopefully sell it to fund the other stuff I need.

Wow, well I just realized how long it has been since I started this thread. Really, not much has changed, I did score a complete tan soft top for my yj for free. But other than that not much has changed, work kept me busy and the jeep went on hold again. I am now back to actively hunting for my parts and I will get this thing running trails soon hopefully.

Also forgot to ask if anyone had any insight as to what that rear differential came out of. It does not appear that the spring perches have ever been moved, and they are the proper with as well. The shock mounts do appear to have been added on. Im just wondering if this axle is worth keeping, or selling, or what I should do with it.

Looks like a d44. Good axle if you already have it.

For parts try Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market. List of salvage yards that may have the parts you need. You can locate by price or distance.

Picked up a windshield frame for $15 from the local u-pull it, overall in pretty good shape, but It has two small holes that I do need to take care of in the channel. Also went ahead and properly fastened the front bumper on. Also when I purchased this jeep, it had some pretty big dents in the cowl by the hood hinges. So I went ahead and made a bracket to help me straighten them, driver side came out pretty good, passenger side still needs work, but the hood is now able to be bolted up. Radiator is on order, then I need to decide on an electric fan to purchase. Pics to follow

Any suggestions on the windshield frame repair, I have an idea in my head but figured I would ask in case someone had a better one.
