Cool '95 YJ w/ 5.2L 318 Magnum... (v2.0)

Dodge/Chrysler engine swap version 2.0.... For those of you that know this Jeep from this previous 440-swap thread, https://www.wranglerforum.com/f330/95...a-1465473.html it's now going back under the knife again...but this time for a 5.2L 318 Magnum from a 1995 Dodge Truck.

Currently, it's equipped with a 106k, good running 2.5L/I4 mated to TF904 3-speed auto, but that's about to change. We're going to pick up the complete donor engine this afternoon around 5'ish, so stay tuned for more details...

Cheers!

Smile Update: 7-24-17

Picked up the donor engine for this project this afternoon. A seasoned 1995 5.2L 318 Magnum V8 from a Dodge Truck...

Will be selling the entire EFI System/engine wiring harness, intake manifold, throttle body, related sensors, injectors, fuel rail, ignition distributor, EVAP stuff and matching PCM if anyone is interested. If you wanna' upgrade to EFI on the cheap, this is your ticket! $175 + shipping.

Cheers!

Update: 9/15

Engine is completely dis-assembled and ready for initial cleaning of the components that will be re-used and/or machined. Upon first inspection, this engine appears to be in very good condition overall, which indicates someone has taken care of it since new, used good oil w/ frequent oil changes, etc.

I've built literally hundreds of EFI performance vehicles over my 26 years in the industry of many makes and models....including a C5 Corvette in A/BGT that set a yet-to-be-broken land speed record of 226.42 MPH at the Bonneville Salt Flats... It's not a big deal to me anymore, so it's nice to build an "old school" vehicle once in awhile.

EFI is easy..... if you can make a carburetor run smooth with big Power you've done something. I love the mechanicalness of it all.

Hah I hear that - I always appreciated my old RamCharger & Power Wagon's manual choke and simpleness. That being said, I must be getting old - I like the smoothness and reliability of modern and simple EFI systems... I'm keeping an eye on this - the Mopar 5.9 seems like a good candidate for the YJ

LoL! At 47, believe me....some days I feel damn old and you're right - you really can't beat the drivability EFI provides. It's funny though.....the older I get, the more I enjoy turning carb mixture screws and listening for engine note changes over punching keys on a PC and hitting, "enter".

Haha! ;-)

Smile Update 11-13-17

Body is coming off...slowly but surely. There is a LOT of crap connecting the body to the chassis on these rigs! More than I thought would be...

Smile Update: 11/27/2017 Body is OFF!

Finally! The body is separated from the chassis!

Frame is in excellent condition and everything is still a "go".

Anyone in the market for a great running engine, transmission, working A/C system and wheels/tires?

Doing this job at the CTE School I instruct at after-hours.

Anyone know what a fair price to ask for the following? 1995 model year..

1. Stock AMC 4 cyl. engine assy. w/ 106k miles, related wiring harness & ECM. Well maintained, mechanically sound, starts & runs great! Have video of it running prior to dis-assembly if interested.

2. Stock AMC 3-speed auto trans. w/ 106k and lock-up torque converter. Well maintained, shifts clean/smoothly and drives great!

3. Wheels & tires you see shown w/ matching spare. Tires only have 1760 or so miles on them and are in new-like condition. Balanced and ready to bolt on.

4. Factory A/C system complete. Works great and gets COLD! Have video of it working prior to dis-assembly if interested.

Thanks in advance!

You can sell the 4 banger motor for about 800 bucks. I'd say 250-300 would be a fair price for the TF tranny. Wheels and tires look to be in good shape you could ask 500 for those.

As for the A/C unit, I'm not sure - whatever someone'll pay you for it. Hold onto it until the summer and throw it on ebay or something. My guesstimate is maybe 300-400? I don't know if the A/C Unit will bolt onto a 4.0 which kinda limits the market more.

Hope that helps!

That does help and thanks for the suggestion. I was figuring around $350 or so for the entire AC system, so it looks like I wasn't far off the mark. I'll probably post all this stuff locally on Craigslist soon.

More progress made on the deconstruction of this thing...

Fuel tank removed. A/C system removed. Both driveshafts removed.

Everything you are taking off looks really clean, so that should help with resale. It is nice to see this thing really rolling along now.

Everything is mostly clean from what I can tell, as I don't think this rig has seen much off-road time in its' past, other than what I've driven it on the sand dunes over the last 4 years.

Sorry, but its getting an automatic - a HD TF904 w/ lock-up torque converter for street driving and some sand dune use. Since I didn't have a manual trans laying around, but had the slush box, I'm just using that instead.

Don't really think I want to ship this stuff, as the brackets, compressor and other things are heavy, likely making shipping costs expensive - plus, the condenser is aluminum and fragile, so UPS or FedEx will have a field-day with that stuff smashing it up during transit...

Not really worth the hassle or risk IMHO.

@pc1p & @jeepdad95

After having installed the A/C system in my 91 YJ, I would tell jeepdad95 to keep his condenser and lower the cost of the kit (sell it locally for like $50?) and advise pc1p just to go ahead and buy a new condenser.

Not saying the one from jeepdad's isn't in good shape, but for the hassle of having to put one in you're better off just going with a new one rather than pulling the radiator and fan shroud and everything just for the old one that was shipped to be leaking from being damaged.

And for pc1p - even if shipping is $100 you're still doing really well on that AC kit. You know how hard they are to find here in AZ!!

I don't want to separate anything in this kit, as it works great as-is and I don't to to get stuck with any other misc separated AC system parts to sell later on outside of the complete kit..
