advance adapters ax15 swap kit for 2.5l amc is on order! im quite excited! its gonna be badass! oh its gonna be a huge upgrade! nothing like a beefy tranny behind a tiny motor! lol i also ordered a new hard line shifter for the 231 tcase and to get rid of the clunky worn out shift linkage and detach it from the body mount... it should also help with the flat belly skid as well. im still considering looking into chromo shafts for the d30. or just stock 1 piece replacements out of a cherokee or something with compatible shafts. but the cost is pretty similar for oem replacements or mid level chromo axles... grr decisions.

I found some TJ 1 piece shafts on Craigslist for $60! I'd go that route

ive located some 98 cherokee d30 shafts w/ 130k for 125.

onto other jeeping news. my advance adapters order was backordered for almost 2 weeks but shipped out on 3/23... so it should be here by end of day on 3/28. ive sourced a 1310/1330 conversion joint to mate up the new rear drive shaft to the 8.8 that ive been working on to get it ready for the swap into the jeep!

autozone part # is #353 for the conversion ujoint! it was $9 w/ a lifetime warranty! so we will see how it turns out. lol. duralast for a questionable win lol.

ive also been toying around with putting together a non cad d30 for my yj. ive got a 94 zj d30 to play around with but it will need a full rebuild since it has 307k onroad and zero off road miles!

also ive found out that the ax15 that i got out of the 94 zj is out of a 97 xj and it has the 3/4 input shaft and only has about 150k on it instead of the supposed 307k thats on the zj body. gotta love salvage yards and their writing of all the important info on the case in yellow paint pen!

ive been toying around with stepping up my tire size to 33's any body recommend a reasonably good set of 33/1250/15's for a reasonable price?

ive joined up with a pretty active local jeep group called the Joplin Jeepers! and they have definitely helped enhance the whole experience by light years!

part 1 of 3

this is going to be a bit of an update for about the last 2 months. its been quite busy and hectic trying to balance work and jeep times… but the last few weeks have been super productive towards the next round of upgrades for the old girl.

well i will start at the beginning then.!

on the last post i went off with that i had ordered my AA ax15 to 2.5l swap kit. and will it has shown up in all its grandeur! only 3 weeks later than expected. apparently AA had to get more of the plates made before it could ship out…

new flywheel

new pressure plate.

gonna try a different style of muffler. its a straight through with a few baffles. hmm. itl be like a sonic experiment!

new door latches for the cj7 canvas doors i picked up

new bumpstops since my oem are completely shop or missing lol

picked up some 3/16'' plate for my belly up skid plate. 42''x48''

cj7 half doors

installed my crown sye kit. had a bit of fun pounding out those bearings in the center cluster tho. no access to a shop press currently. not a lot of pics either but i did make a cool little video of it tho.

got my clocking ring on. had to get matching length bolts tho. cause there were a few mounting points that seemed a bit shallower than the others.

got that dirty ax15 cleaned up nice and tidyish lol

had my first successful experience with ujoints. i got my 1310/1330 combo joint from autozone and installed the 1330 side in the 8,.8 pinion yoke flange. took a full week of soaking in a penetrating solution to get the old joint out but worth it in the end!

part 2 of 3

and finally without much ado. here's the crown jewel of my swap so far and to this day. my ax15 with the AA 2.5l adapter plate installed to and mated to the clocked 231j w/ freshly installed see!! oh my god its heavy piece!!!

from the pics above. i did swap out the front output yoke for a yj joint strap yoke indue of the zj/xj double carding yoke that was installed from the factory. hopefully i can just get an extended yj front shaft and shave some change!

and just being silly. i picked up a set of 96 xj rear springs. toying around with the idea of some possible rear stretch. hmm. decisions decisions…!

part 3 of 3

ive got some more pics of a wheeling trip that i rode along with a good buddy in his 84 cj7 to disney, ok. and had quite the experience with deep mud, slippery rock and street tires lol.

it was a good trip overall. had a lot of fun with good people and even tho there were some sticky situations we made it out and home safely without really breaking anything. miracles aside. we rightly should have broken a few choice parts lol. but all in all a great trip to disney, ok for the BMR run!

thats about all the pics that i got of the run. we got stuck on a few hills and in a couple mud hole areas and spent a good amount of time winching and puling others up and out as well! it was a great trip and im hoping to be able to take my yj back on 5/27 for their memorial day run! its gonna be awesome! but a long road ahead! figures crossed!

well my friends its definitely been a bit of effort in the making but there has been some serious progress thats been made on my old yj!

so lets start off with some good ole tranny porn!

oh thats a good looking piece of machinery! thats a ax15 adapted to fit a 2.5l amc! i love it! advance adapters provided the adapter plate and hardware. i was able to clock the zj ax15 and tcase w/ a clocking ring off ebay! worked and sealed up beautifully! and a crown sye to top it all off and make the drivelines happy with the 8.8 that im in the process of getting stuffed into the yj!

stuffed the ax15 into the yj. had to do a bit of trimming on the tub to get the shifters to fit but its in!

i also sourced a set of 5 new 33x12.5r15 falken wildpeak mt01's to play around with and enjoy the romping through the country side!

oh thats a pretty pile of tires!!

heres a comparison to the 31's ive got on at the moment.

i cant wait to get these monsters on!

they measure over 13'' wide counting the side wall tread. and a little over 33'' tall unmounted. got them for under 900 for all 5! pretty good deal i think.

part 1 of 3.

after the tranny was installed. it wouldnt have done it justice to put that raggy and rusty oem skid plate back in. so i got a wild hair and decided to just build my own smaller skid plate!

started with a half sheet of 3/16 plate and went to town making it work for me and get what i needed!

and that was the making of a strong, sturdy and beefy skid plate!

got it all fitted, mocked up and braced. its solid and extremely ridgid! its about as heavy as the oem skid plate but its only 2.25'' below the frame rails. from the bottom of the skid plate to flat ground its 16" of clearance. im pretty proud of that ugly piece. but its solid and functional and all my clearances are good from all that i can tell. if need be. i can still go back in notch the front if theres any front drive shaft issues. but it should be good going off the mockup with the oem 2.5l drive shaft.

i worked pretty hard to get the engine bay cleaned up a fair bit. since im going solid passenger side axle shaft. i deleted the entire 4wd shift vaccum line assembly and pulled everything off and capped the port at the intake and amazingly that fixed my check engine light that id been plagued with for months now!!

built a new transmission cover plate since the shifters didnt quite fit inside of the stock openings anymore. made it out of 28g sheetmetal. looks good and i still have to bedline it but ive been flirting with a brushed finish and justa coat of clear but we shall see how it looks with my new shift boot i ordered from redlinegoods.com in black leather and dark red stitching.

all bracketry that infringes with getting the 8.8 into the yj has been removed and its currently in the process of getting cleaned up. new breaks, ebreak cables, and solid diff cover are in this axles very near future!

i think i may have a sticker problem...

and lastly i assembled the hinges for my diy tire carrier that im gonna end up building for the jeep. i just dont know if itll be built by the time the 27th rolls around.,. but its quite beefy and should be able to handle quite a bit of abuse offroad!

hopefully this weekend ill be finishing up my 8.8 swap to the point of mockup. that should allow me to measure and order my new rear double cardin rear driveshaft. then get on to swapping in the new axle shafts, hubs, full cad delete, new seals and gear oil flush for the d30!

then dive into custom hd steering, getting the new tires mounted then rear tj fenders installed and then rear crossmember repair. shouldnt be to bad i think. but fingers crossed!

small update on the build. the 8.8 has been installed, pinion angle has been set, the zj front shaft has been cut down and it fits well in the rear of my yj.

new breaks have been installed on the 8.8, new hard and soft lines, new calipers, pads and rotors. ebreak assembly is a bit of the back burner atm. not to important to get it up and running... but itll get done eventually. rest assured!

got the d30 reasonably rebuilt. installed new zj shafts in the front axle (solid passenger side shaft), new hubs, spindle nuts, and took a week to get the passenger side inner axle seal figured out and finally deleted the cad set up for good and put a yukon block off plate on the gaping hole that was left. also built a set of crossover steering setup. custom hd drag link and hd tierod with heim joints on every corner and high misalignment spacers to get the angles just right for the draglink.

all thats left now is to get the transfer case to seal on the transmission. need to either get a longer transmission output seal or a speedi-sleve to extend the sealing snout of the tcase. ive had that dang tcase out 6 times now trying different things to get it to seal properly... i think i need to get a seal thats 3/8 wider than stock and well i dont think that exists... yay.

after the seal issue is remedied. i need to get the rear tj flares installed and tub trimmed to fit. and get the tires mounted to my rims. and finally get an alignment. and then itll be done for the most part. until i get around to installing all the little parts and pieces that ive been collecting over the past year or so...

tj trail corners w/ round led tails. tj side gas fill mod, tire carrier build for full size spare. custom rear bumper will be fun to build!

also looking into a possible 2'' to 3'' stretch for the front axle. just to make sure the 33's fit better into the front fender wells. either wagoner springs or maybe get the stretch from the perches. still deciding on the next course of action...

part 1 of 2 for all the exciting updates!

oh its been a fun sat few weeks with everything thats been coming together oh so very quickly with my yj!

holy guac & salsa!! its been busy! pretty much everything i wanted to get done on the jeep for this round of mods is complete!

well it started with getting the cross over steering wrapped up and completed! all done up with heim joints and some beefy tubing!

lol it got super scientific!! but ya gotta use whats on hand!

got my new drive shafts in! rear is a shortened zj front shaft and the rear is a custom length tattons drive shaft off bay.

that front shaft is beefcake! 2'' doom tubing and a 7'' slip joint! a steal at $150 shipped to my door!

also got my pod lights mounted up again instead of that little light bar. definitely a lot brighter then the little light bar.

also got my tj rear flares on to match the small rear stretch to reenter the tires in the wheel wells.

and it started with some gut-wrenching trimming of the fender wells… ugh still a bit topsy turney in the tummy from cutting into good steel on my jeep…

i had to trim my rocker guards to fit the tj rear fenders. took some time but it turned out pretty well i think! nice and tight lines i think!

both sides wrapped up and looking awesome!

part 2 of 2 of all these un upgrades!

well and theres even more fun ahead! woo hoo!! i got the tires and spacers mounted, exhaust wrapped/heavily improved and lastly an alignment! oh it feels like a completely different jeep now! here's what i mean!

oh those tires look so good on those sexy rims!

and a quick mockup! loving the look of that stance!

wowza! oh thats a great look!

i also got my rear crossmember welded back on and i got to use a better welder and i got some solid penetration on that crossmember!

love that new look and stance! low and wide is where its at!

after all the fun of the modifications! i went to a veterans car show! it was awesome helping raise money for a great cause!

and the most recent mod is a little dig rear cargo net to help keep my doggies in the back of my jeep while out on adventures!

it turned out pretty good. and at only about $10!

there will be many more mods to come but in the meantime. im gonna setback, relax and enjoy the crap out of this beast vie put together! i couldn't have done it without the help of my buddies tyler and brennan! you guys are the best!

pals for the future are an break set up for the 8.8. waggy front 2'' spring stretch in the front and figure out some form of tire carrier to mount my full size spare on!

on and i bought a hole saw to take the final plunge to go the tj gas fill mod! hopefully the tj rear corner armor still fits so i can use my hybrid tail lights. fingers crossed! until next time! keep on jeeping!

well my week started with having to finally replacing my front break calipers, pads and rotors! that was annoying! but i got to buy a pneumatic bleeder tool so that was cool! the caliper seized up hard enough the front passenger pad caught on fire! good thing my fire extinguisher was handy to put out the bit of flame that was present!

more to come!

after a wheeling trip 2 weekends ago, i had a pretty good run in with a tree at a fairly substantial speed and mangled my passenger front leaf spring. ive since ordered and currently in the middle of installing a pair of front wagoneer leaf springs from general spring. i just need to get new ubolts bent up that are 1.5" longer than oem ubolts and ill be in business!

im still in process of finding another hosting website for my build pictures,

jeep on!

the reason is that photobucket.com is bunch of greedy aholes for wanting to charge $400 a year to let you have the privilege of uploading pics to their website then post to the forums. used to be free now $400. and its not just me. build threads across the internet are in the same predicament...

no lucky yet for finding a new site thatll host the pics for me...

small update. still havent found a good option for pic hosting. will probably just make an attempt to upload them to the site when i have something worthy to upload.

there been a little wheeling here and there, some breakage, some repairs but all in all ive just been enjoying my yj for what it is and enjoying it when i can! i need to re-download the app and see if itll cooperate with me this time. fingers crossed!

also i did a little digging into the free 5.2 zj that i have sitting in my yard and it looks like the motor has seized from sitting... just my luck. so i believe ive settled on doing a 4.0 swap since i have everything and will just need to rebuild the motor and gut all the goodies out of the 94 zj before i send it to the crusher hopefully very soon... hopefully a bump in compression, new gaskets, bearing and touch overbore will get my yj happy again and be able to really enjoy it without revving the rpms to the sky and back...! but we shall see what happens and go from there!

So far it's just been enjoying my yj and using it for what it is. I've gone on more wheeling trips in the last 6 months then I've been on in the entire time I've owned it in.

Thank you sir. I've still been hard at it on my yj. Most recent round of updates are cj8 halfcab hardtop and a new rear double cardin drive shaft made from an 00 v8 durango. So much extra beef after I grenaded the ujoint pedestal joint on the zj shaft I had shortened. Amazingly enough with 317k on that shaft including being cut down an installed on my yj and then beat mercilessly for 8-9 months of daily duty and wheeling often it finally gave out lol.

And for giggles I put 30's on it when I was commuting 40 miles a day in it. Amazingly enough I got 13mpg. It was fantastic!

More updates to come. Getting new shocks, balljoints, durango steering box

I'm pondering the idea of possibly going to build a tire carrier and redoing my drag link and tierod in 1.5" dom and 3/4" forged offset heim joints for the tierod and 1.25" dom for the drag link and 3/4" heims.

More updates to come. Mostly just been lurking to Facebook and the local jeep pages. Jeep on!
