Dana 35 to ford 8.8

I know someone who is selling a ford 8.8 posi out of a ranger. It has 4.10 gears. He is selling it for 300 which seems like a good deal to me but I’m not sure. I really want to know what all I will need to do this swap. I know for sure I will need to regear my front Dana 30 to 4.10 but that’s about all I know.

I believe the ranger axle is 28 spline where the explorer is 31 spline. I would verify that before dropping $300 on something that will be a marginal improvement over the D35.

Red, Daddy jeep makes a good point Rangers and I believe Mustangs came with the weaker 8.8. Check out "The Ranger Station" for their write up on Ford 8.8 axles. Also $300 is no bargain around here they go for $100 to $150. I paid $125 for one a few years ago but never used it, it's just setting in my driveway until I find a home for it.
Good luck with your swap.
