Dodge axle swap to jeep

Hi I'm new to this forum and I just bought a 94 jeep wrangler and I have a 97 dodge 2500 5.9 gas v8 3/4 ton with a manual teams in a junk yard and I think it has dana 44s and I was just wondering if it would be a good axle swap

the jeep only has a 4 cyl and it is stock I want my jeep to be a hunting rig and a daily driver and a off road you if even posible I don't have tons of money but I can find some deals around my area if I know what I'm looking for

I wouldn't exactly recommend the 90's dodge front axles. They use the central axle disconnect like your jeep has but it's in a place that makes centering the axle between leaf springs for a wrangler very difficult. They also have a cast leaf spring mount as part of the center housing that may or may not line up. They also use an 8 on 6.5 bolt pattern so unless you grab the rear axle (good idea if FF dana 60), it makes things expensive to adapt/buy wheels and tires for. And these axles use unit bearings instead of hubs....

Okay thank you very much for the info just trying to do things the right way but I'm a budget and I know how hard that is

Maybe look for a late 80's jeep wagoneer front axle since it is 1/2 wider than the front you have now and will be a dana 44. It'll have a 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern but you can also get a rear ford explorer 8.8 and run adapters on it to match the width/bolt pattern of the front.

Is that the axles you would recomend for mild trails and daily driver I have old chevy pickups as well 1/2 and 3/4-ton trucks if I just knew what I was after I could zero in on something that I already have they are 75-90s trucks

I also would like to know what gear ratio for 31inch tires with a 4 cyl and maybe eventually a 6

A great combo is a 77ish f150 for the dana 44 front and 9 inch rear. High pinion 44 before the cast radius arm wedges, see pictures below. There are tons of great combos, but finding a driverside drop front axle is the main goal along with not down grading. Unfortunately, chevy trucks are almost all passenger side drop front axles with the exception of a few hard to find 4wd vans from the 80's.

Engine size and transmission combos highly effect proper gear ratios, there's not just one gear size for all combos. If you only need to run 31's, your stock axles should be adequate. You could always swap out the rear axle for a ford 8.8 out of an explorer or a dana 44 rear out of a 87-89 jeep cherokee for a little better piece of mind but the front will hold up no problem. Believe it or not, the gearing your stock axles have with a 2.5l and 5 speed (4.10 ratio) are perfect for a 6cyl with 5 speed and 32-33's. With the 2.5l and 31's, 4.56 would be nice but seems unnecessary to me.
