Red face RedRUM

Project RedRum
10/9/15
Friday
So today I traded my 96 zj for a 88 2.5l yj its stock
Went for a test drive drove well enough. The guy I bought it from said it had "a small fuel issue" and we'll it turns out to be a few more issues as well. But it's a jeep. And it's old. So as we (Tom and I) drove the jeep home it choked out and lost power. Wouldn't start again. So we towed it to toms parked it..

Sunday
Here is what we have noticed after tinkering for a few days

1 top of the roll bar driver side is broken off (will probably remove for a temporary time till I can get the upgraded one)
Steering rack moved a ton! Needs a new bushing and clip I think
Starter relay was loose. May also need replaced in future.
Possibly a new starter
Wiring was a mess- tons of splices and dices in the harness.
Possibly a bad icm and coil
And we are almost certain. A bad fuel pump..
We decided on a new 3 core rad as well considering a bit of rust in the radiator cause it sat for a year or so!(Look at this on eBay:

3-ROW/TRI CORE FULL ALUMINUM RACING RADIATOR 87-06 JEEP WRANGLER YJ/TJ 2.4L-4.2L

3-ROW/TRI CORE FULL ALUMINUM RACING RADIATOR 87-06 JEEP WRANGLER YJ/TJ 2.4L-4.2L

It needs a full set of mounts for engine and trans
And.oil pan gasket
As well as a valve cover gasket.(bubbling oil out he valve cover kinda cool to watch
And a new intake tube
And vacuum lines for everything.(dry rot) !
I think that's it for now loll
We also cut off the track bars and sway bar so it should ride a lot more smooth
I ordered he pump and sending unit for the tank. We will see what happens. When it gets here
Look at this on eBay:

Monday 10/12
Tested the icm
it failed.. however i did "get" one from picknpull from a Comanche
Then decided to try to clean the grime off the valve cover didn't work lol
valve cover gasket ordered and i think that its time to order a valve cover as well.. a lot of grime in the valve area..

Radiator update
No oil because it's not trying to separate!!
But now I am broke so soon as I can I am going to be getting a new icm and coil as well as a new radiator. That will be like 300 so... All in due time.. Thanks for following

So, That takes us to the present. so far i will catch you up quickly on what we have done. 1. cut off sway and trackbars 2. trimmed exhaust pipe soon going to replace the cat because it is glowing orange and clogged 3. bobbed the front bumper and removed the grille gaurd 4. put gas in the tank. 5 drove it around so this whole time that we are messing around with stuff we are finding things that need repalced so i am glad that we were looking at thing. but we added gas and she fired right up and runs.. not particularly well.. but runs well enough to drive around the city and on the freeway. 6. everyone will like the pics of this one..seafoam in the vacuum lines!! smoked out the neighborhood 7. cleaned everything with a powerwasher.. carpets came out and floorboard was cleaned out (no more cigarrette ashes and dirt everywhere ...for now(about the dirt) ) 8. we loosened shackles thats it for now..

Thoughts and feeling up to this point

Thoughts.. well I am thinking about right now just going with a boomerang shackle lift.. with tj flares and 33s so that will bump me to about 3.5 inch lift.. i am thinking of building a posilock for now and taking axle shafts from an xj.

as far as things to fix
radiator is still a need (eventually)
VORTEC 5.3 SWAP
and tearalow tcase stuffs
40s on d60s
6" coilovers..
"the works" right.. so.. i know this thread has been sloppy but that is because i did not know how to post right lol.. as of this post on.. updates will be more of the "same day" kind of thing so please hang in there with me cause i am gonna need some helps..

also I broke my driver door striker on a date with my wife.. she is no longer allowed in the jeep because everytime something happens

Like day 1.. we run out of gas (not really her fault)
next time she rides.. i break the door striker.. no big deal 1 door on one off..
the third time.. we drive to church and its like right down the street ( we are in SLC UTAH) and the exhaust is glowing orange!! and we start leaking coolant!
in the next post i will give the story of the 1 door on 1 door off day.

So today tom and I flushed the radiator again. Changed the cat because it was glowing orange. I wanted to know why!! So we changed the catalytic converter cause it was clogged. And did the valve cover gasket. (I think it's time for a new cover and an engine flush) and it's also new starter time..

I can't wait to get my boomerang shackles and tj flares. As well as a 1"body lift.

I sent to picture messages on your phone of the vacuum diagram. Or we can do it the easy way replace them one line at a time since they are all there

okay, here is an update.

Got the grille painted and got the dash out to repaint to match the grille.
im converting from spice to black.
still need a starter and solenoid
still need an o2 sensor
still need my roll bar welded and my exhaust welded together so it doesnt leak
still need to to the posi 4x4 actuator that is coming right after the starter.
but i have new needs
drop pitman arm (4-6")
extended break lines
and U-joints (spicers) 5 count..
funny enough i have bills that came up that are almost to the dollar the same as those wants..

but i am pretty stoked cause ive been quoted a decent price for some tyres at tax time and locker and slyders.. pics coming soon

I think that o2 sensor and u joints and starter should be a priority. I'm getting tired of pushing your YJ to start it !

Ok Ryan. Here is your long side shaft for the cad bypass. I have a spare hub to toss on it. You'll need seal part# 11800 from Napa. I suggest getting the front driveshaft balanced at Tattons it'll run about 50-60 to get it done.
