Last week I attempted to do fix my yjs timing issue. Before tearing apart I did a compression test (which was great btw) but it revealed a bigger issues. The gean for the dizzy on the cam was stripped out. My hei was a bandaid fix that lasted 3 years. Since the oe distributor had a ton on runout.

But it is a blessing in disguise. I picked up a 7120 cast 4.0 head earlier in the week. Once I get my header, and other head related parts its going to the machine shop for a port and polish, port matching the exhaust, 3 angle valve job with lapping on larger valves ect... and she will be getting a comp cams camshaft also . She should be pretty nasty when finished.

If you want a suggestion based on experience, I'd use the 4.0l intake manifold with that head. It flows better, is easier to install with no need for custom washers and filing, won't have to worry about the egr hole or coolant running through it, and is much less prone to vacuum leaks. I don't remember which carburetor you run, but gronk on ebay sells a 2150 adapter to the 4.0l manifold. If you have a weber, I'd have one made... I used my 4.2l one for a while but had nothing but problems until I got the 4.0l manifold with the adapter.

Time to update I guess. I did get the cam installed with a pacesetter header. I broke in the camshaft and got about 4 miles on the odometer before i lost oilpressure. I towed it to a buddys shop he dropped the pan , We found that I goofed up majority. I left a few shoprags in the oilpan by accident. Oil gallys plugged Oil pump plugged , wrapped around fuel pump wristpins went through main bearing. So the 4.2 was trashed

Some buddys helped me locate a 91 xj donor for 250 a few days later. I drove it around for a week or so. Shes a really strong running 4.0l. Dispite a cracked manifold and leaky valvecover gasket . Saturday I started the swap. Pulled the 258 from yj then 4.0 harness and ecu from the xj. While it was out we replaced the valvecover gasket and noticed how clean the valvetrain was it had mustang injectors swapped in already. No carbon build up on valves we noticed that when replacing the cracked manifold with a header. Before the engine came out we tested compression 140-150psi across the board (sweet i bet this has been rebuilt recently) when seperating the trans we noticed it had a brandnew luk pro gold clutch (now I have a spare) got my ax15 and 231 mated up and stabbed it in. Now wiring and installing the front clip. Fluids and a few little details and itll be back to live and fuel injected now ! I also have the crossmember tcase and ax15 and shafts to a buddy to do a manual swap in his xj. And the other buddy the shell to build a crawler for his wife

I have the 4.0l fully swapped in. Harnesses are spliced together. I was having issues with the external pump not wanting to prime so I removed it primed on a bench and relocated it. Once i get some more fuel injection line i'll try to fire it up. Once its running I will start with my oba. Setup

That XJ will live on in three different Jeeps.

Sorry to hear about the mishap with the 4.2, but it is probably for the best. Fuel injection is so much better.

Yesterday I tried to figure out my fuel issue after my 4.2l to 4.0ho swap. After about 6hours I called it a night however I came to a conclusion that I am going to abandon the Airtex e8228 inline pump in favor of a intank pump. Even when pressuring the tank it was only able to pull just enough fuel to sputter. But when I would disconnect the fuel line and pour gas into the pump she would fire right up. But in hindesight I figured it was a successful day since i know it runs under its own power !

Nice build Tom! I love the route you went with it.

You're going to love the 4.0 and it's going to drive like a brand new Jeep!

I installed the intank pump from a 95 on Saturday cut the plugs off the old sending unit and soldered them to the new sending unit. The hot wire for the pump I extended from the signal wire that was powering the inline pump. Primed the key 4 times and she fired right up. I let ot idle until she hit 220* then shut it down. Tested the efan temp switch which was faulty only turns on once it hit 300* (tested with heatgun and ir temp gauge) so i found a spare switch in the garage and wired up a override. Ill trigger it manually from now on. But all the hours were well spent since i finally got to drive it. https://youtu.be/k69yK5LeFnU

The YJ passed emissions with flying colors today. Sunday I may take advantage of the near 70 degree weather and do some topless wheeling.

Just dropped some coin into a interior upgrade. I have been wanting to upgrade seats for a couple years and finally bit the bullet and ordered some Corbeau Baja JP seats for the front. Didn't do the rear yet since I don't feel like having car seats trash the rear

Last night I started my seat swap had to do the driverside first obviously it was the logical choice. Went smoothly until I came across the external torx bolt on the seat rail thst was seized. Ended up stripping a socket, my stripped nut removal sockets wouldn't bite it. Had me baffled for an hour or so. Then I remembered my buddy left his welder in my garage. What a glorious thing that was. Welded a nut to the stripped bolt and zapped it right off with my new impact I also got for Christmas. Once it was off I put the seats on the rails and went to reinstall. Thank God I have a tilt wheel or I wouldn't be able to get it you do sit more upright then the seats look and your seating position has definitely changed you can see over the hood more better before the seat had to be all the way back. Now I I actually had to slide it forward to be able to fully depress the pedals. I did have a choice between seatbelts and a console so obviously we know the seatbelts won. Later today I'm gonna but some new external torx sockets. And get back to work

If you haven't sourced your ammo can yet, I came across a killer deal from one of my go to sources. 40mm ammo can
Every one of them I've ordered has been in really good shape when it arrived.
