I'm truly impressed. I have two 1980 CJ7's, and parts to build a third, but the detail in which you've done this project is astounding and quite frankly I'm jealous. I think I can learn a lot from you. I have two questions for you. What is high solids paint and Old Dodger a couple of times said "PICS flipped" what did he mean by that. I didn't see anything in the pictures it looked like it was "flipped" but that's why I ask. I don't know what I'm not seeing. I'll be watching with great anticipation.

Paints are made with two basic ingredients (although there can be dozens, or hundreds obviously), the solids (pigments, binders, etc.) and the liquids (solvent). The higher the solid content, the lower the solvent, and vice-versa. Low solids paint can have as little as 25-30% solids, with high solids being anything above 60%.

If you detail small parts (or chassis, differential parts, etc.), utilizing a high solids paint has the benefit of better coverage with less total product, but also the high solids is generally manufactured to better quality standards, resulting in a longer lasting finish.

Even spray enamels such as Seymour MRO, or Class C Solutions, properly prepped and applied, can have amazing results. It isn’t your Grandpa’s Krylon!

Occasionally (ok sometimes more than occasionally), my attached pics are not indexed correctly and need to be rotated in order to be viewed correctly, and the moderators can assist with that if someone asks respectfully.

...to this...

...slightly prettier version. Anyone who knows me well knows details are my thing. I often use the old adage “The Devil is in the details”. I must admit I am fairly picky.

For example...

If I am assembling an engine or deep in thought on some other task I am particular about, my friends think it is funny to rearrange the tools in one of my roll aways since I am not paying attention. One of their favorite sources of amusement is usually one of my socket drawers. If I am assembling an engine with studs, they typically will hide one or more of my stud installers. Real amusing!

The Differentials...

Got them completed over the last couple nights. New gear sets, all new bearings and seals, new Moser one-piece axles for the rear, new ball joints and u-joints for the front, and all new brake parts all around. Going to pretty them up, replace the cover on the Model 20, and start hanging the suspension parts and drivetrain after a little more frame detailing.

First up, Spring Hangers...

So the M.O.R.E. spring hangers are quality pieces. The O.E. ones are really a crappy design, and the fit sucks. That being said, frame rail stamping and assembly wasn’t exactly an art form in the 60’s and 70’s. Where the rear spring hangers overlap the rear frame crossmember, there is a gap between the hanger and the frame at the forward bolt when rather rear bolt is tightened. You can A) run a washer as shown in the first pic, and risk having all of the clamping force eventually crack the frame in that location, or B) fabricate a spacer out of some 12 GA material. I chose the latter and made them out of 17-4 stainless plate.

Front and rear hangers from the bottom...

Far superior than the O.E. design.

The Rubicon Express shackles...

I take the time to put a bit of liquid Teflon on the threads of each zerk fitting. If you have ever seen pretty red EP grease squirting out between the threads under pressure, you will understand why!

And a little progress...

I needed some production, so I put down the phone, installed all the urethane bushings, and hung the leaves and differentials. I also installed the M.O.R.E. steering box bracket, the cast cover for the Model 20, and the aftermarket tie rod so I could steer the roller when it was on the ground.

M.O.R.E. Bombproof Engine Mounts

I have used a number of these over the years, but this is the first set on a CJ with an AMC V8 between the frame rails. These mounts (and all the M.O.R.E. products I have used for that matter) do not disappoint.
