285/70R17 vs 285/75R17

Side by side comparison
Original BFG TA KO
New BFG TA KO2
Both are just tires, no wheels.

How many miles on 285/70? Is the 285/75 narrower?

I don't know how many miles are on the original. The new tire is the same width.

285 mm is the width for both. The 70 means the sidewall is 70% of the 285 mm width, and the 75 means the sidewall is 75% of the 285 mm width. More sidewall = taller tire given the same width.

That 5% difference in aspect ratio sure makes a difference.

It's easy to calculate the size difference between the 70 and 75, but it's nice to actually SEE the difference by looking at the tires unmounted and placed side by side.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks! The reason I ask is I've noticed that tire manufacturers seem to list the 285/75's as a bit narrower. Take the K02's BFG for instance, they list the 285/70s at 11.5 and the 285/75s at 11.3. It's only a .2" but I've wondered why they are not both 11.5" .

Those 285 70s look really bald, apples to oranges in height.
