When Old Falls road opens up in the Rocky Mountain Nat. Park(Estes Park), take a run up to the Alpine center. Nice one lane/way dirt road up to 11K+ft

Here is a time lapse.

Once you make it to the top, take the highway back to Estes. Depending on when you start, you can hit Bear lake and walk around it (about 2miles IIRC),
Then about an hour before sunset, head over to Morraine park to the elk viewing area. If you get there too early, you can take that road to the Fern Falls trailhead. There is a small stream next to the parking area.

It makes a nice day trip. We live in Cheyenne and make that day atleast 2x a year. And we end it with a Domino's pizza there and head home. Usually get back around 10pm. Oh yeah, Estes is the nearest place for gas.

@WillyD Hey thanks! That looks like a great place to take the kids. I have a 5 year old and my girlfriend has a 3 year old, and I would like them to get some seat time in the Jeep. I get up to RMNP about once a summer, this might have to be on the itinerary.

Here is the RMNP Road status page. Usually Trail ridge opens Memorial day and Old falls opens 4th July.

Nice shot! "Altitude Sickness" would be a cool jeep name, if a person was into naming their ride.
