It's not done much in my area. Corvette drivers rarely wave either. Maybe because so many are on the roads locally?

By the way, welcome!

The Jeep wave is a real thing. Since you're in a JKU, you will probably have to wave first though.
Happy day for me today - I went three for three. Usually around here about 65% of the wrangler drivers wave back.

Absolutely it's a real thing and it's glorious. I always get a little smile after a wave exchange.

Welcome.

It's a real thing, but be prepared for rejection if you are waving at a stock JKU. I don't wave at stockers any more unless they initiate, which is almost never.

No big whoop though. It is cool when Jeeper's wave back.

Nice jeep tradition that complements the whole experience. Wave or no wave back...maintain the tradition as the onus is on them.

You know, I thought it was just me that experienced that phenom from the stock JK drivers. Local to me virtually every TJ, YJ, CJ waves, bone stock or customized beyond belief. JK folks not so much. Me I, always wave no matter what "Wrangler" your in.

I'm 2 years into my first jeep, I didnt know at first either....

yes it's real, I live more rural, but commute to the city. The rural jeepers wave, some of the City Jeepers wave.

I think it's fun....

(If the top is off or doors are off, wave out the door /top.... both hands!

A few other things that may happen....

Little kids riding around town will point out their window and you can see them saying "Jeep".... (Wave at them too!)

Other Jeep drivers may approach and talk Jeep.

You may get a random passing "Nice Jeep"

You'll find out how many people "Had one of those"

There's times where someone is "Eyeing you" and you realize they're just checking out your jeep....

Those are the things I noticed....

Definitely real... although the newer the Jeep gets the less likely the 'hip' soccer mom will wave. Just keep throwing your hand up though and make them realize how dumb they look when they DON'T wave.

It is a real thing. Here in Michigan a lot of people wave back. I would say 70% wave. Generally JKUs don't wave or wave back. I still wave though.

And if you're an idiot, like me, you'll find that when you get out of the Jeep and into your pickup, you'll wave at the first Jeep you see, and then feel stupid when you realize you're in the truck.

I got lots of waves even from non-jeeps yesterday... old fat dude with a cigar in his mouth in a doorless and topless hydro-blue JKU doing 85 mph on a highway would do it...live a little

I live in upstate SC but was on a business trip to Detroit a couple of weeks ago. By odd happenstance my rental was a Jeep Wrangler also.
Jeep wave was returned 100% in and around Detroit, Plymouth , Novi, and Madison Heights. 12 for 12 that week!

I find this whole thing kinda... odd. I'm no stranger to cult-ish automotive communities, and have owned a number of cars that "wave", but the Jeep wave is the most hit-or-miss thing I've come across. When finalizing our plan to purchase, we borrowed a truck overnight from the dealer. I must have seen 40 other Jeeps in that 24 hour period, and *all* of them waved. Since I took delivery of mine this last week, I'd say fewer than half wave, and still another third or so are impossible to see; it's dark in there!

You will find the numbers of return waves changes daily and in my area I can have two to three jeeps passing in a row or spaced by a few cars so some days it gets a bit much. Wranglers especially JK's are all over the place here and I have to say I have had just as many JK's and JKU's not return a wave but screw them I wave anyway. I would have to agree that its more stockers that don't wave back but have had the mod'd folk also ignore the jester being I'm running stock right now.
As mentioned prior when not driving your Jeep your hand seems to have a mind of its own trying to wave to the passing Jeep until your mind overrides it.

@AndresJeep2010 You're forgetting a few ethnic groups and anti-socialites who never wave.

@AndresJeep2010 even though I've said I'm not waving at the jeep person, we're actually waving at the jeep. Assuming we like the setup.

i'm a jkur, i go first most of the time, sometimes the other jeep will wave first. I live in lexington ky, right on the edge of university of kentucky. I live one block from the infamous state street from the basketball couch burning days that usually make national news, sorry i digress, i see alot of college age kids driving them, most of them are girls. I'm not kidding when guessing 75% of those around campus area are college girls. Most wave, and its awesome. I'd say of those that are girls, over half are modded jeeps.

Yes, baypeyty, the 'Jeep Wave' is real. It exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Jeep Waves. It would be as dreary as if there were no baypeytys. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished...

I haven't had a stock jeep return a wave in the 3 weeks I've had mine. Maybe they don't like what they see coming at them. And there are bunches of them running around my area.
