LT285/75R17 with Spyder Trax Spacers

Thanks to all the members here who post up their specs, experiences and pictures of different mods. My research here lead me to choose LT285/75R17 Nitto Dura Grapplers mounted on stock rims with Spyder trax hub centric spacers. I wasn't happy or confident in the original Med Terrain KM tires performance on wet roads. I sold them on Craigslist. I also added the flat fenders and a Teraflex tire carrier. Here's what my 2017 Rubicon Recon looks like now:

OldMan08JK and caleb1404 like this.

Has this been lifted at all? If not, is that why the spacers are needed? I can't seem to find correct answer regarding recon's with your tire size. If it is lifted 2-2.5" would one still need spacers with the stock rims?

The wheel spacers are needed so you don’t rub the sway bar at full lock.

Yes, aware of that, but trying to figure out if there is rubbing when lifted with this tire size as well (specifically for a recon). Or is that irrelevant and this tire size causes rubbing with or without a lift.

Lift has no relevance I have 285/75-17’s on my recon and stock rims. You won’t rub bad or enough to hurt anything but you will rub at full lock without them lifted or not.

Good to know. Shop said otherwise and that seemed to go against what I've been able to piece together from various threads. Thanks for the info.

keep in mind on the street it would not be an issue.
with 2" mopar lift and 285/75-17 and spacers.

with 295/70-17 no spacers and no lift. it rubbed driving home turning out the tire shop.

Nope, no lift, it is factory Recon suspension.

Correct, the spacers eliminate rubbing at the ends of the steering turn limits.

The increased fender clearance with flat fenders and the 33 3/4" tire height gift it a lifted look, but I don't have that high center of gravity feel when driving and my suspension geometry is original. She steers and tracks true and straight, and the Nitto Dura Grapplers are pleasant on the highway.

jadmt - thanks for the pictures. would you happen to know if we swapped out our wheels for standard aev wheels (either pintler or borah), can we forgo the spacers with the 285's?

mattffemtp - yeah, ideally I'd like to keep factory suspension as well. but, i'm nearing gvwr and seeing sagging that probably should be corrected.

No spacers needed with either aev rim.

Mattffemtp,

What fender flares are you using. I am trying to go the same route as you with my JKU sport. I just purchased some Recon springs and am looking at options for flares to run 285/75/17 on Rubicon rims.

The part number on my fenders is B62S0921A and the brand is Best Way - you can find them on Amazon & Ebay
