Winch setups

As my next big expense, I would like to see some of your winch setups - Just from some of the build threads, I saw some really nice setups. Please post up, thanks!

Rough Country hybrid stubby modular winch mount/bumper with HF 12k winch, Warn hawse fairlead and locking grade 80 hook. I welded on the front receiver hitch. Weight is about 20 lb more than the Recon bumper and skid plate that I removed.

I did a 'budget build' last May. I installed a Rugged Ridge Spartan bumper (around $300) and a Warn VR-10S winch (around $770). -- Happy with it.

I went recessed mount for my Warn VR10-S. With safety in mind I opted for synthetic line and Factor55 gear in place of a hook. Ended up a nice clean install.

Very nice!

I don't have a setup yet, but I am ordering the same bumper with Fog light attachments and a Smittybilt 97495 XRC winch.

If the Smittybilt winch is configured like my Harbor Freight, it will just clear the vacuum motor without moving the motor.

I run a Warn M-8000 S tucked inside the frame rails, behind my VPR 4X4 126-SS bumper. I like the compactness and light weight of the M-8000 S.

The 8000 S has provided plenty of pulling power. I recently used it to get up "Waterfall" on the Trivecta.

I have had winches mounted on top of the bumper and recessed I like recessed better but on top is easier to use when you need to spool in the line again.

Nice! Makes me wish I had a recessed mount stubby - I’ve got an Ace stubby.

I just put on this same bumper with the fog light ends a month ago. Taking a look at winches now and trying to decide my choice. Do you like your HF?

My Smittybilt X2O-10 recessed in the OEM JKUR Recon steel bumper with end caps removed. Fit perfect w/out moving the vaccuum canister. I LOVE these bumpers.

Is the Hard Rock bumper a bolt on replacement on a 2-door Rubicon with standard bumpers?

A good friend of mine just got his first Jeep about 2 years ago and wanted a winch after a score on an AEV bumper he got on CL. His first HF 12k winch lasted about 20 pulls which he was bragging to me about. I laughed and told him thats not good.... He returned it and got another sine it was a no questions asked replacement, it lasted a shorter amount of time. He's got a Warn now.

What sold me on the Warn M-8000 S was it is still made in the USA. It's record for durability is tops. The Chinese made winches are very affordable, not sure about the reliability though...

I bought a Warn M8000 in 2003. I sold it in 2015 still working. It needed new cable and once I had to clean up connections in the control box. This Jeep was never garage kept and the winch never covered. This winch is the reason I always push Warn. You get what you pay for and winches are no exception. I'll take a budget VR series over anything Smittybilt, HF etc.

I chose a Smittybilt X2O winch to save money. Since they're an American owned company, I fugure Americans designed the winch, chose the materials, developed the mfg process, and even chose the quality control tolerances. So, if it breaks, I'm not blaming the 12 yr old Chinese kid who assembled it.

No the HR Bumper is designed for a winch to be inserted with a base plate. There are parts to remove to open the hawse, and winch top area. In my picture the end caps have been removed for wheeling.
