2012 jk radio replaced reception is gone help...

Hi guys,

I replaced my 430n with a jvc unit and now my radio reception it gone. This wouldn't normally bother me except for the fact that I need reception to get real-time traffic on the navigation unit. I checked the cable near the kick Pabst and it seems to be connected fine. Oh, they changed the connection typefor the cable by the way. It no longer spring loaded but a better designed clip. What are my other options? I had my local best buy install the unit since iI didn't have time to but if I have to rip in there now I might as well have done it myself.any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best Buy offers a lifetime workmanship warranty; as long as you still have your paperwork, they will check it out for you. Don't rip it apart yourself, as you will void that warranty. It is probably a bad antenna adapter, I have seen some that have shorted pins, which will cause a no reception condition. Have them pull the antenna adapter and swap it out for another one, making sure they meter the shield and the inner pin; if it has a short, these will show continuity. The new Chryslers are using a European style antenna connector now, thus the different connector you found in the kick.

Awesome advice Eboven. Best buy won't swap the antenna adapter for me since i supplied all the parts. But at least I can buy a new adapter and test it before swapping it out myself. That would eliminate that as a possible cause. Again, thanks for that. Do you have any other ideas on what else I should look for if this doesn't prove to be the issue?

On a 2012, I wouldn't think it is caused by anything else; as long as the original radio got reception and all antenna junctions are secured, it pretty much has to be the antenna adapter.

I have a feeling that the installer didn't wire up the power to the antenna. https://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/201...am-132066.html

Above is the wiring diagram for the 2012 Jeep Wrangler. About halfway down is this...
Power Antenna*****gray/orange*****+*****radio, gray 22 pin plug, pin 7

I believe that means that the Jeep has a diversity antenna, and it requires a turn on voltage, but I could be wrong.

Update:

Ok so I went ahead and got into the dash yesterday. Come to find out the damn installers broke one of the tabs under the dash! It wasn't to bad though. But I still don't like the lack of professionalism. They could have easily told me about it.

Anyway, I got the radio out and grabbed the antenna adapter. The instant that I grabbed it reception snapped in. So you were right eboven. I bought a replacement antenna the day before and tested it to make sure it was working correctly on the Voltmeter. Once I swapped it out all radio stations and traffic feeds came in perfectly!! While I had the radio out I decided to ground the parking brake wire as well. I hate not being able to change playlists while the car is moving. Now I just have to go ahead and sell my stock 430n mygig unit. lol

Thanks again for the help guys.

Glad you got it working, the installer definitely should have checked FM reception, though. I believe installation of any double-din radio into a JK requires cutting part of the sub-dash to make it fit. That being said, if you would have rolled into my bay, I would have certainly told you about it before I did it. Sorry for your bad experience there; we're not all careless like that!
