4200NEX Explosion

It finally got cool enough to take the roof off here in Dubai... Took the panels off two nights ago & even though it hadn't rained in 12 months, as soon as I took the roof off and walked away it lashed out of the heavens...

The stereo is still working, but won't allow the USB 2 to work... an so no Android Auto.

Steps taken so far, in this order:
  1. software reset
  2. hard reset using pinhole button
  3. firmware update
  4. disconnect battery for 30mins

Unfortunately nothing has work as yet... do I wait for the car to dry out; remove the head-unit; something else? I do rely on Google Maps...

*the explosion may or may not have occured & may only have been mentioned for dramatic effect.

** having said that, their is an outside chance of a minor explosion

Thanks for all the feedback. I've decided to take a balanced approach to the problem. I'll take the head unit out of the dash this evening, submerge the unit in a bucket of water for 10 mins & then dry it out in the hot press in a bowl of rice... this should mean that all parts of the system are evenly treated & I'm not stupid, so I'll make sure there's no power to it...

You are putting the entire radio in water for 10 minutes to get it all wet so that you can dry it? That's a new one on me.

Doc, I think I broke my finger, but I'm not sure which one. Well, let's break all of them and put splints on each one to make sure we got it.

I'm sure there is a better way.

It'll be fine, I'm gonna douse it in lighter fluid and dry it out with a quick flame once I've left it for a while.

I find they perform better when doused in Brandy then flame dried. but sometimes the voices seem to be slurred

Submerge the entire Jeep. Then you can be sure all the water is gone. You will need more lighter fluid though.

Well that didn't go to plan. I submerged the vehicle as advised, all was good up until then. for some reason the car wouldn't tick over at this point, but I still had planned to dry the car out... A bit of zippo fluid and a match & things didn't necessarily go as planned... I took a couple of photos to document events (below) on the plus side, the stereo is now working, turned out I just needed to switch out one of the cables.
