advice needed on yj complete sound system

Hello. I just bought this 95 wrangler. It came with an older alpine head unit and stock sound bar with what looks like pioneer stock size speakers. The dash speakers appear to be fubar'd. I want to switch to a media only head unit as I only listen to Ipod or Pandora. Thinking something along the lines of:
Sony DSXS100 Digital Media Receiver

Now for speakers I am thinking about ditching the dash speakers and buying one of those center pod consoles with 5.25" speakers and something to hold 6x9s behind the front seats on the wheel wells. Crutchfield recommended the following:
Polk Audio DB521 5.25" ($45)
Polk DB691 speakers ($149) 6x9s
Alpine MEX-F35 ($299) 4 channel amp providing 60 watts RMS to the 6x9" speakers and up to 42.5 watts RMS to each of the 5.25" speakers (wired in parallel to present the 2 Ohm impedance

Question is, will I be able to hear this system with the top off going down the highway? Am I getting good bang for the buck or should try to piece something together off of craigslist. I don't know a whole lot about car stereos.

all sony car audio is garbage, plain and simple.

other than that, what you have listed will work. if you can find space go with a set of at least one component speaker system that go for it. it splits the speaker wire in two and has a speaker and a tweeter that wire into it to make a very crisp sound.

I just installed a similar setup to what you described in my YJ. You aren't going to hear much with the top off except the wind and road noise, especially on the highway. Even if you crank it I wouldn't call it a pleasant listening experience. The stereo is for trails, sitting at lights, and driving with the top on.

i have no problem hearing my speakers in my soundbar with the top down on the highway, you just need a good set of speakers.
