Android Auto Mod REQUEST

I am looking at purchasing a new Wrangler and have been lurking in these forums for a short while now. It seems like a few of you have modded the vehicle and replaced the stock radio with an Android Auto head-unit (mostly Pioneer from what I've seen) with varying success (depending on how you define success, I suppose).

What I am looking for from you:

1.) how exactly did you replace the radio (I'm new to working with cars but I'm willing to try!) and what you would do differently or suggest to others trying to replace the radio?

2.) has anyone gotten Android Auto installed alongside a back-up camera? If so, what hardware did you use and how did you do it?

3.) since I am looking at purchasing a Wrangler, which radio should I be looking for? The basic stock option or the upgrade?

4.) anything else I should know but didn't ask about? (either in regards to Android Auto or Wranglers in general)

Thanks! Looking forward to your feedback!

I had a 15 JKUR with the stock radio and uconnect - replaced it with a nex 4100 used the idatalink maestro and idatalink harness - iwould say it worked excellent - I believe it retained all the functionality of the uconnect when the android auto is not connected (l though i replace the original radio immediately so I didnt use the system a lot)

I have got a BU camera and it just plugs into the 4100

install is pretty straight forward other than you will need to trim the metal frame at the back where the deck slides in as it is to small to fit the double din - easy wit a dremmel -and you also need to trim plastic near the front where the deck inserts just so it fits better

Thank you gerry2153! I must have overlooked the notification for your reply, otherwise I would have seen it earlier.

I just got the jk1001 from insane audio. It has kit kat 4.4 running on andriod platform . Very cool system . I replaced my 730n navi for this unit, it has wifi and you can run virtually any andriod app right from the deck. Live wallpapers, waze, google earth , google maps, weather radar apps, the list is huge another cool feature is it is completely plug and play so steering wheel controls work as well as Two inuts for video so I have a rock cam in front and a rear view camera. lastly the music sounds much crisper than my 730n with the alpine upgraded system previously in the jeep.
