What bands are you looking to get on? Almost any VHF mobile rig will mount easily. Hf you might want to look for the ICOM-706 with remote mount face plate.

Dual bander's with a removable head can be easier since the head is not very deep. For some reason Jeepers tend to prefer Yeasu's. It just seems that everybody on this forum that adds a FM rig, it's a Yeasu.

Part of the Yaesu crew. FT-8800R dual bander. Transceiver mounted under the passenger seat and the remote control head mounted in the dash top tray. Control head is in direct line of site when driving so it is easy to operate. Antenna on the drivers side fender.

I plan to install my Icom 2720 dual band that I took out of my last vehicle. It works well for me and I have 3 of them in use. Plan is to mount radio body in rear on top of woofer speaker and control head above inside mirror off roll bar. I am waiting for a couple of mounting brackets to arrive.

Kenwood fan here. I have a TM 710G dual band with APRS mounted under passenger seat with the head unit on a Ram mount and a Diamond HR770 mounted on the AEV tire carrier. Adding a TS 480SAT HF which should get delivered next week with a Little Tarheel II mounted to either the license plate bracket or above the driver taillight.

None. Any rig you decide to add into your Jeep is going to be a compromise somehow. That said go for one with a detachable face plate and you'll have more options as to where you actually place the transceiver itself. Personally I use an Yaesu FT-8800R.

Looking to get a new radio with a detachable head myself.

Would love to see some more examples of where/how people mounted the radio head on their JKs.

Thanks LCH30 and Phototrek. Good inspiration. I picked up an Icom IC-5100a at the Green Country Hamfest in Claremore, OK this past weekend.

I'll be mounting the face plate above the head unit as has been done here. I've got a bracket fabricated up and am working on the under-seat options as well. I'll post some pics when I'm done.

Hi all,

My situation is that I need to find an under seat mounting bracket for the radio main body (JK 2 door) and a mounting bracket the face plate. Anyone have hardware vendor suggestions?

arjeeper, any pictures would be most welcome.

I had a Yaesu FT7900 mounted under the passengers seat and when I moved to the Kenwood TMV-71a, it replaced the Yaesu there. You can use one of the factory ground studs as one of the mounting bracket screws. The face plate then can be mounted to the dash, over the mirror or really, just about anywhere you want.

I caution you on an under seat mount if you drive with your doors off or do water crossings. You will run the chance of putting the radio under water. I destroyed my first Kenwood that way.

If you want to mount the remote head above the stereo, then a simple L bracket can be used to mount to the top dash hold down screw in the Junk tray and then mount your remote bracket to it. If you want to go over the mirror, Get the Rugged Ridge Rootman Loop mount.

Thank you so much for adding that caveat. I was wondering about. I've had water up over the tires in the course of my explorations before. Nothing has every come inside the cabin but I've wondered.
