Came across my old amps. How would you run them?

So I have a 2016 75th anniversary JKU that came with the “Premium Alpine System.” In my opinion the system sounds very nice for being factory, but it isn’t giving me enough power…especially with top down and/or doors off. I have the 430n factory head unit which is honestly a disappointment as far as audio controls are concerned. The system has a stock 8x12 inch subwoofer which I’ve never head of before now. Pretty cool for stock, but again… it is just ok.

That said.

Years ago when I was a teenager i spent just about every penny I ever earned on my vehicle at that time. Plenty of my hard earned cash went into the audio system. I came across some of my old stuff. Here is what I found:

-Alpine in dash flip screen TV with 6 disc changer (obviously outdated, won’t be using this)
-old school Rockford Fosgate Punch 800.2 amplifier (Was a beast at the time)
-Infiniti Reference Series 7540a 4 channel amplifier
-audio capacitors x 2
-2 x 12 inch JL w3 subwoofers (foam surround needs repair)
-4 x Kenwood 6x9’s

I haven’t had interest in car audio for over a decade, so I am sure a lot of this stuff is outdated. However, back in the day this set up was legit. The bass was incredible. If this equipment fell in your lap, what would you do? I can’t imagine that 8x12 sub is going to handle either amp. I would be open to replacing the factory alpine speakers. I don’t believe the 6x9s will fit anywhere in the Jeep’s factory locations, and I honestly don’t want to install both 12inch subs into the jeep. The bass would just be overkill.

Pretty much leaves me with the amps…unless you all have any advice about the speakers. I honestly don’t remember which amp powered what. Anyway, any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like you have some great equipment growing dust on it.

I would honestly keep the Alpine speakers/amp/sub in place and only replace the head unit. The Alpine speakers are probably on par with a mid-level aftermarket speaker. The amplifier isn't real powerful, but its already hooked up and the wires are run very nicely to it. The subwoofer I might would replace, but I haven't heard the new Alpine Sub in the trunk. It may be sufficient for my needs. I say replace the head unit with something of good quality. If you like your old fold-out receiver than I would do that.

Thanks for the reply. The head unit is probably gonna be my next step. I could at least see how it sounds without the wrinky dink factory 430. If I do get around to installing the amps, I would like them to be on a better head unit anyway.

Seriously though.... I almost feel obligated to use the old amps. It really is just collecting dust and it is/was some really great pieces. Not sure how well the factory speakers could hold up to them though.

The factory speakers would be four 6.5 inch speakers and four 3 inch speakers... I think. Would hooking 8 speakers on one of my amps cause any obvious issues?

I'm in the same boat with extra speakers. I have 2 10" and 2 5.25" subwoofers that I am trying put into use, but can't find a great way to work them in.

I'm not sure how it is with the Alpine amp, but with the base radio there are 4 channels. Each channel has a Y-split going to the woofer and 2.5" tweeter. If you amplify the system, it's a good idea to put a bass blocker/capacitor on the tweeter side of the Y-split so you don't blow it out with lower frequencies.

I too have a pile of equipment accumulated over the years. I'll probably give the stuff to the kids or save it for another vehicle. The Wrangler is limited on space and trying to fit gear that isn't optimal doesn't make sense to me. I ended up buying decent amps at a fraction of what I paid for old class A/B behemoths, yet got stuff that was compact enough to easily mount where it wouldnt impose on my limited space.
