CB Antenna cable too short

Got the Firefly 18ft cable and not was it will reach the CB over the rear mirror at 18ft.

I saw some threads suggesting using the roll bar route but with the Hardtop on, I can feed it that way. Also really hard to find longer wires. so Got two smaller ones and will use and adapter to connect them.

Sucks after removing the spare and TF HD carrier and start running the wire to realize it short. Also the FF wire comes with a bare end and have to solder tip on. Never done that and can'[t fine my solder gun anyways.

Any have success running from the floor to mirror? Maybe I did it wrong? LOL

I ran it under the carpet and along the passenger side floorboard, along the door wells to the back to the back of the Jeep.
That will save you a lot of cord. I used and 18 foot cord also. Just pull the carpet up along the passenger side and run it that way.

Tired that. Not even close. Barely reaches dash. Going to measure the wire, maybe mine was defective in length?

An 18' foot cable should fit if you run it along the fenderwells toward the front, along the floor by the front seats, then up behind the dash to the windshield, then to the top of the windshield and across to the center. I took that route with my LJ and was able to get from a tail light antenna mount to the top center of the windshield with 16'.

A better alternative to joining two commercially made cables together with a barrel connector would be to run a piece of wire along your desired cable route to determine the actual length of coax you need for your install and then buy that length of coax (+ 1' or so) and attach your PL-259 and S)-239 connectors.

If you are not comfortable soldering coax connectors you can often buy a custom length coax cable with connectors installed from your local industrial communications company (a company that specializes VHF business band, fleet radios, police and public safety installations, etc.). The cost usually isn't much more than you would pay for a commercially made 18' cable at a truck stop or on Amazon.

Don't worry about cable length being different than 18', 9' or any other length. The coax length you want is the shortest length between antenna and radio without any kinks or sharp bends. [See, Exposing the 18' CB Coax Myth.]

The cb is mounted by the transmission hump, so you shouldnít need to wire to the dash.

This is how I ran the antenna cable. I ran the cable under the passenger seat a little.

has to be short as my 18 foot cable has to be coiled. running from back to front under the carpet along passenger side. I have used the same cable on 2 different 4 doors.

Rather than coil the excess, which can create a RF choke (i.e., increase in impedence with potential adverse effects on radio performance), it is better to make a figure 8 or skein with the excess and secure with a zip tie.

Perfect! You will be happy, thatís what I had. The coaxial end unscrewed for ease of installation.

Like JADMT said I also had excess wrapped under the passenger seat. And thanks Mr Bill for the better advisement on excess coil.

Ok, I roughly checked it and seems to be close to 18ft.

I have it on the TF antenna mount, routed to the vents in tailgate, behind the spare tire. Then through tailgate, under the black plastic cover and follow that wire into the rear tire well. From there farthest I could get was middle of passenger seat.

I changed location of the CB mount to the over mirror with a RC mount for now. Afraid my kids might keep hitting it on the hump with qtech mount for now.

You should have been able to get farther than that.. did the cable loop and wind up inside the tailgate?

Good idea on the cb mount.

Donít think so? Again have to change out anyways as tip is not connected and cant solder it.
Hopefully new one will reach and wont need extension. Just have to wait for new wire to arrive. So I can connect and then pull through tailgate with removing the TF tire carrier again. That sucked

I use the TF set up too and this how I do it.

when I am not using my cb I disconnect the cable at the mount. There is plenty of give in the rubber seal between the window and tail gate. Been using this same coax cable and mount set up since 2012 and never had an issue. some people think it is boring and simple but it works.

Hmm, not bad. Prefer to have it all hidden. But if I cant get it to work, then that is an option. Thanks

Did you have to grind away some powder coat? Top and bottom?

mine is hidden 98% of the time because I only run an antenna when offroading. the inside cable is tucked up inside the ledge I just pulled it out to take the photo.

Ah, that looks good. I might just do that instead of feed it! Much easier and can do same with a soft top.
What type of connecter is that?
The firefly seem to always have to stay connected.

Yes you need to grind the PC on the bottom of the mount. Where the nut goes. Not the whole mount just the underneath by the hole

When my radio was over the mirror, I used every bit of that 18" of cable but I had enough. Across the windshield, down the A pillar, along the floor, up the B pillar, along the side t the tailgate, out the vent to the mount on the lower bolts.

CB Antenna cable too short

Alright, the Firefly wire was short. Did not measure but not close.

Now my new 18ft RoadPro cable just barely reached. But will not reach via the tailgate route. No way and I took time to take all slack out and the shortest route. Feeding it via the back window like jadmt does. This works for me as I will use the CB when needed a few times a year.

Update: Moved location of CB

Unfortunately of hours trying to get wires through Jeep, mounting of Rugged Ridge CB mount, I had to go back to the passenger side hump area with the Quadratech mount. The Uniden Bearcat 880 is just too big to fit over the rear view mirror. Took almost 3 1/2 hour isn the SFLA heat to get it right.

Great new SWR is 1.0 and it seems to be working.
