CB Antenna Mount

After reading too many threads and watching YouTube, I am still a little confused. I have the firestik, cable, and right channel stainless steel mount and I am looking to mount it drivers side above the taillight. Can I just clean the paint off the inside of the tub for ground? Should I use a conductive grease or just give it a good coat of rust oleum after everything is installed? Rust is definitely a concern in Maryland. Thanks.

Tub isn't a good ground - I ran a ground wire through the drain hole under the cargo area - mounted it to the frame - no risk of rust as I just looped the ground through a bolt connecting tub to frame - past the rubber insulators - your other option is to get a firefly antenna - which is a non grounding type of antenna works in reverse with radiation coming more from top..

The tub is grounded to the frame at probably 15-20 different points, it will provide an entirely adequate ground or RF ground for any form of 2-way radio. Not so the tailgate but it can be grounded to the tub via a braided ground strap and be fine as an RF ground should anyone want to mount an antenna to it.
