CB radio HELP!

Alright so i finally bought a CB radio for my 2016 Jeep JKU. This is my first CB, i have no expierence with these. So i bought the cobra 19 dx, a poison spyder mount for the tailgate, a 3' firestik and spring. And a rugged ridge over the mirror cb mount.

Now i have no idea how to set this up. Do i run the wires from the cb to the battery? Or is one a ground wire? And just the red one goes to battery?

For the antenna mount, do i need to grind off the powder coating? Also do i absolutely have to run a ground wire for the antenna?

It is best to get power directly from the battery. The red wire be the positive and should go directly to the positive side of the battery. It should have also have a fuse, so if it didn't come with one, you will need to install one. The black wire should be the ground.

As for grinding off the powder coating, sometimes you need to and sometimes you don't. I never had to on mine. As for the ground, same thing, you might have to or might not, once again I never did on mine.

You will need a SWR Meter to tune the antenna. Check out the installation and troubleshooting here, Learning Center.

Also, if you search on-line and on this forum, you will find plenty of threads and videos on installing and troubleshooting for CBs.

The 'signal' is going to be shitty, it's a wrangler which has virtually no ground plane and it's a full frame vehicle with body bushings isolating the frame from the tub.

Bonding as much of the tub to the frame and hood to the firewall (with flat braided ground straps and "star" grounding washers), should give a pretty good boost in performance.
Plus the rear mount (tailgate mount) antenna is about the least ideal location for performance of the system.

Good luck.
