The walmart cobra is a good cheap radio, and if it ever broke you wont feel bad about replacing it $40. But Ive had mine soaked during a torrential down pour of a summer shower and it still works great. Right now its covered in mud, not had a single issue.

I like my uniden 510xl. I have a 2ft antenna on it. I have an swr meter so I metered it and I get great tx/rx with it.

Picked the antenna u at the local truck stop. They usually have good prices on cb stuff...

What ever you do get it metered or you will not be happy with it.

I have a Midland 75-822 with a lil' Will Wilson magnet mount antenna, off Amazon for about $120. true plug & play temporary mount for trail rides, doubles as a hand held if you need that capability as well.

I just replaced my Uniden 510xl with a Bearcat 880. The weather channels are invaluable here in CO.

How do you guys keep yours secure in your jeep? I have a soft top with half doors, so anyone could just break in and take it.

Mine stays mounted above the rear veiw all the time, I just don't worry about it and the Jeep is doorless and bikini top from April til October.

^ Same here. Mounted above the rearview on a mount i made. I use security screws to attach it. You could get it off with hand tools if you had some time but really the radio would be wrecked if you just tried to rip it out.

If you're worried about someone stealing it, you can look at the Cobra 75, which is what I have. I mounted the remote behind the glove box, with the handheld mic/control by the radio, with a mic clip.

With the Midland 75-822, since it's not mounted in the jeep, I just take it out when I'm done with the trail ride.

I've heard good about the cobra 29. There is a thread, "basic cb buyers guide", that may be useful to ya. My tablet doesn't like providing links with the WF app, but a search will provide it.

+1 for above windshield mount.
