Charging a GoPro through the USB port?

I don't know squat about this stuff. Can I run my GoPro while off roading with it plugged into the USB port? The battery never last nearly long enough.

That depends on if the USB port and cable can provide enough charging current. Not all can though most can. If the USB port is on a car charger that plugs into the Jeep's aux power port (cigarette lighter jack), odds are good it can so long as you didn't choose the cheapest charger on the rack. Avoid cheap tiny diameter USB cables too, they may not be able to pass all the current the USB port is capable of providing.

When you have a choice, buy American.

If I use the USB port on my radio the GoPro thinks it connected to a PC and it goes into file xfer mode. If use the cigarette lighter adapter with a plug it will work but my GoPro gets hot. I now use a battery eliminator like the one below and I can use the USB port on you radio and the GoPro stays cool all day. You can find them on eBay for half the price:

While I had a GoPro I had 4 batteries. Since they take forever to charge I figured that was the best means to ensure I had a good one, when changing - every 50 minutes or so.
I don't just drive a Jeep. I drive a Tank Jeep.
It is a Jeep, you must slam the door.
Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in Jeeps.
