Cig lighter to female USB cord?

Hey all -

I have a older style Sony Walkman and it gets charged up by plugging it directly into a USB port on a computer.

I now have a stereo where I can plug my walkman into it and play all my mp3 files.

I'd like to be able to charge it as I drive. Is there a cord that will go from the cig lighter into a female USB end, so I can plug my walkman into it?

Not cheap...but not horribly expensive either. I do like how small it is...nice for having a clean permanent install if you never use your cigarette lighter or plug anything into it like a radar detector/gps unit. Of course if you do, you can always pull it out too. Didn't mean to insinuate that it's permanent.

I've got a Sony Walkman out in the shop, it takes AA batteries and uses these odd things called cassette tapes. And it still works last I checked. Mebbe it's worth something as an antique?

Maybe some of these are different than others, but my phone can also be charged from a PC USB port and that is how the home charger is setup. I figured this would be safer and a car charger if they are only supposed to put out the same ~ 5 volts right? Nope. It fried the battery and after that I could only talk for about a minute after a full charge and it would be completely dead again.

Just something to keep in mind! Maybe there was something wrong with mine.

Sounds like something was wrong...that definitely SHOULDN'T have happened.

I needed the same thing (lighter plug to female USB) to charge my phone in the Jeep. Harbor Freight tools has just the plug for $5 !! You do have to supply the cable portion though. At Best Buy the whole thing was $20 but my phone (LG Verizon) came with the cable (Micro USB to regular USB) and the USB to Edison so all I needed was the plug. It works like a charm. Here's a link:

Hope it helps.....

hidden USB connector

I purchased a replacement cigarette lighter to male mini usb cable to charge my AT&T Tilt cell phone a while ago and found it had also had a USB port hidden in the lighter portion - if you are looking to have the ability to do both in one unit. I think it was under $30.
