For the people who are looking to upgrade the speaker

Dear JK lovers since I am new to the JK world I have been researching upgrading the sound system in the car. I actually knew before purchasing my brand new 2016 JKU sport that the stock speakers are not any good so I ordered the kicker 40CS654 speakers before I even got the car. I ordered only a pair.

Since the installation of the speakers in the sound bar is easier than installing them in the dash, I installed the pair and my initial reaction was like. O______O

There was no change in the system. I was thinking that I just burned a $100. I was blaming the headunit and the power output of the JKU. I then got the idea of switching things around. I went ahead and switched the kickers from the sound bar to dash and switched the mopar speakers in the dash and put them in the sound bar. Then, the sound moderately came back to life. The improvement was noticeable. I am slightly happy with new curves I can hear now from the music and mostly happy that I realized that I didn't fully waste the $100. I only was wasted 60% of it. =D

I don't know why the speakers are better in the front than the back. It might be due to the power distribution of the JKU or might be because I am sitting closer to it.

I thought about sharing this with you all and save some $40 from getting burned.

The kicker 40CS654 speakers are 4 ohm which is why they have a lower output than the stock ones and why folks install the 77kick10's. The 77kick10's are 2 ohms and sell for less money. So now you can either install 2 ohm speakers or get an amp that will allow you to power the kicker 40CS654 speakers correctly. You should also put polyfoam behind the speakers, if you haven't done so already, to increase clarity and decrease the vibration in the plastic. Plenty of threads here on the forum about mod'ing or replacing both the full range speakers and the tweeters.

Also, you ears are shaped to hear sound in front of you not behind you. The best speakers in your system should be up front.

The stock Radio and if you have an amp are both very under powered, especially for an open air vehicle.

Truth is, you have to spend some money to get a better sound system, $100 won't get you much.
