GPS is inaccurate

My cousin own a 2009 Jeep Wrangler with in-dash GPS navigation system. For a last few days the GPS is working inaccurate, some times it shows the exact location where he is, but some times it shows the wrong location. Wondering is it possible to fix this or it needs to be replaced.?
Looking forward to know your thoughts and advice.

what do you mean "wrong location?" is it showing a location on the same road, but just beyond or just before the actual location? i have a gps (not factory though) and the software needs to be updated b/c it is a few years old. i live in a fairly rural area (as rural as NJ can get, i guess ;p) and the maps that are supplied to the gps manufacturer are not completely exact so sometime when i go somewhere it will take me just before or just after the location.

Yeah, sometimes if they've redone the road (or if it's entirely new) since the maps were'll make the GPS do all sorts of weird things. I drove down a highway in IL that had been redone...and they had removed a curve out of it in order to keep it straight. My GPS didn't know this and it showed my arrow cruising through the open land about 50 yards off the highway. lol

Don't know how much this would apply to the Jeep GPS since I have an aftermarket one in my Jeep.

But in my wife's Honda Pilot - we have the factory GPS. Had a similar problem where it would sometimes know where we are, and sometimes would be off by up to a mile or more. After some trial and error and research - looks like I have solved it finally. We cleaned the lens on the DVD drive. Now it is acting normal again. Only thing I can figure on that is that the map display was lagging due to not being able to read the DVD properly.

Im glad this was mentioned as I have the same system and having the same problem.
One time I turn the unit on and it shows exactly where I am and the next time its off location.
One of the reasons I got this particular Jeep was it had the indash system.
For what was spent on the system, you d think it would work better.
Iv also asked this question on another forum and no one could give a definite answer as to what the prob could be.
Im curious if it would help to upgrade the software but have no idea as to where to look for any upgrades?
Glad to see Im not the only one wioth this problem.
