Help with sound bar speakers

When I bought my 98 wrangler, the guy told me that the speakers don't work, so today I decided to open them up to see if it was a loose wire or something I could fix, however, one speaker was missing and the other has some weird connection that I was hoping some one could explain for me. Will I need to add a second speaker or will it work with just the one? If I buy a new pair of speakers, will I just need to correctly connect the wires to the speakers or is it worth paying an audio installer to do it for me? I attached pictures of both speaker sides of the sound bar.

If you look at the picture with the speaker hanging out of it, I don't get what that extra wire is supposed to be for, its just cut on the end and I couldnt see any place where it would have come from.

those r standard speaker connectors.. yes, u need to figure out which is + & which is neg.. polarity can be found in the wiring section of fsm.. the extra wire u mention was probably ran to another speaker

Ok thanks, I don't suppose you know what size those speakers are?

Just buy a new set of speakers, you should be able to install them yourself. Those are probably the stock 5.25" speakers, but you can easily fit 6.5" speakers into that opening without modifying anything. You will just need to figure out what colors are positive and what ones are negative, then hook them up to the new speakers accordingly; you may need to solder the leads on if you can't get the actual spade connectors.

u'll need adapter rings to install 6.5s in that hole. go to amazon for 6.5 kickers & adapter ring.. they also carry the dash speaker replacements, & sound pretty good...

Why would he need adapter rings? I have installed countless 6.5" speakers in TJ soundbars, and have never needed any kind of adapter unless the magnet mounts too deep, then you need spacers. The mounting holes on the 6.5" speaker will not match up with the holes that are already in the soundbar, but that's nothing some self-tapping screws won't fix; just drill new holes!

a 6.5 in. speaker doesn't fit in a 5 in hole... u'll have to space the speaker out .5 in with an adapter ring... now,, of course u wouldn't need the adapter to replace a 6.5 with a 6.5 speaker cause the hole is already the correct size..

I have massive Focal 6.5" speakers in my soundbar... no spacers needed, just needed to drill new mounting holes for the screws. The hole is actually bigger than 5.25"... it's kinda squared instead of round, so 6.5" speakers should fit fine without an adapter.

Ok, so i bought new speakers, and will install them as soon as possible and let you all know how it goes. Went with 5.25 because I'm not really looking to blast the radio, more of just so I have a radio, lol.
