Installing Head Unit

When installing a headunit, do you have to run a separate wire to power the unit or does it power through the wire harness? I'm getting mixed responses.

If it's like every other vehicle I've ever done...it should all be done through the wire harness adapter.

Use the power from the original harness.. unless the original wire is shorted because a mouse chewed it up.

What headunit did you buy ?

It's a Kenwood unit with Pandora etc single din. I bought the cheaper scosche harness since i don't have the fancy steering wheel and didn't want to spend more money. the harness comes with the red 12v accessory cable separate, I'm assuming i plug the clip into the head unit, undo the power lead from the 12v lighter, and tap into it?

The wires on the new unit will match up with the colors of the wires for the adapter harness
