iPad + SPOT Connect ???

Can you pair an iPAD and a SPOT Connect device together to get topo maps while on the trail?

I like the screen size of the iPad and with a nice topographical map app, it would make a decent device to use on the trail if you can feed it accurate GPS coordinates (my iPad is WiFI only) from say a SPOT Connect device that offers blue tooth pairing.

Has anyone tried/use this combination?

SPOT Connect Clicky

I haven't. I use MotionX GPS on my iPhone. It lets you d/l topo information for regions and you can set the level of zoom it can do. not sure if it would work with a purely WiFi unit or not, but I can say I used it to mark trails we were running in preparation for a Jeep Jamboree and worked flawlessly during the jam itself...

Just an update. I went ahead and purchased the SPOT Connect yesterday and I will start testing it out. So far though it seems that it will do exactly what I want it to do. The setup is an iPad2 (WiFi Only), using the MotionX HD app and I am feeding the iPad GPS Coordinates via Blue Tooth from the SPOT Connect device.

It has worked out quite well. I did have problem with satellite reception when the SPOT Connect was inside the Jeep so I replaced one of the windshield hinge bolts with a RAM Mount so that the SPOT would be outside the vehicle. It works well and also useful to mount a GoPro camera.

The only draw back so far is that I have to remember to load maps into the MotionX app before I head out.

I velcro my connect to my dash, in front of steering wheel, with a bit of an angle so I can see the lights. Has worked great.

So...are you saying that the connect will feed the coordinates directly to that
MotionX app and pin point ya? Or do you have to copy them from the spot app and input it to MotionX?

Too bad that spotconnect can't shorten the track update intervals.
