Is the Alpine Package Worth It?

Hi everyone, so I just got back from the dealer. And through the costco auto buying program, I'm getting nearly $1900 off of the MSRP and the dealer is dropping another 400 off. I decided to go with the Sport S w/ Auto Trans, Black hard top, etc. I think I'm getting a pretty good deal. My only question is, for all you audiophiles out there... Is the basic speaker system in the Jeep "good enough"? I do occasionally listen to *some* bass heavier stuff, but a lot of what I listen to is voice (talk radio, audio books etc) So while I do drop some industrial tunes, A lot of it will be classic rock, and talking. That being said is the 9 Speaker Subwoofer package even worth it? It's an additional $841 (costco price)

2nd Question: This may seem silly, but is there a cigerrette lighter port in the cabin?

Thanks guys! I may be just a week or two away from getting my hyper green!

There's a bunch of threads on this if you search for them. Opinions will vary, but I have it and I think it's worth it.

As far as the cigarette lighter, if you're just looking for a spot to charge your phone and whatnot, yes there is one. For actually lighting a cigarette, I don't think so.

IMO the speaker system is worth it. The HU on the other hand. It depends. I am not sure if they have improved a few things but the sat is overcompressed and IMO unlistenable. I just replaced my 730n with a new Pioneer and can't believe the sound quality of the new deck with the stock Infinity (09) and I have heard good things about the Alpine as well.

Thanks for the replies. I went for the 130 HU and the 9 speaker alpine set, but I was thinking to replace the HU anyway... Does the HU make much of a difference in sound quality?

As stated lots of threads on this subject, some with a informative video from alpine

I have it and it's not worth it, going to be replaced in the near future. If you are already going to go with a aftermarket radio a local shop can easily throw a small sub in the same location alpine uses or use one of numerous other options for sub duty.... The other speakers can also be upgraded for not much money and better SQ

Huge step up from past options

CD's are ok, satellite has too much compression. I just replaced my 730N RER with a new Pioneer AVH-X2700BS and couldn't be happier. Loud and clean.

So what would you mates say is a more important factor in sound, the speakers, or the head unit? Again, this is given the fact that I'm not a really big audiophile, I'll be listening to a lot of audiobooks and voice. With some heavier bassy things thrown in.

You can live with a factory HU if you treat the signal right. The speakers can't do more than their physical limits allow - no matter what you do. I laughed when I saw the factory speakers. They look like am radio drivers.

If you use a Clean Sweep (JL) or some similar unit from Alpine, et al., to fix the HU signal, you can go with factory radio and an amp and speakers to make for great sound.

I just installed a very small JL amp that puts out great power to 4 speakers and can be mounted in the dash. That and new speakers will have you reading books at concert level! I'd recommend CDT Braxial speakers if you want ez and excellent voice reproduction. Just my experience.
