Jeep HF Antenna Installation Examples & Advice

Hi Folks

Looking for examples (photos), tips, and advice with Jeep HF antenna and grounding installations.

I am experimenting with Automatic Tuners (FC-40, LDG) with whip antennas and I am also currently testing a 9310 antenna. Still working on grounding, but at this point I can tune 160-10 and have no engine noise. Also have tested class 3 hitch mounted mast with wire antennas. Focus is on moving mobile.

During morning drive I have been getting well over 1000 miles everyday 40 meters.

That's a really big antenna. Does it fit below underpasses? The lowest underpass near me is at about 13'.

I've got a Little Tarheel HP installed on my JK.

This is a 6m->40m antenna. There is a way to get full band coverage when stationary by removing the whip and using the coil of the antenna as a tuner on an end-fed wire attached where the whip would go.

It isn't fully put together, so I can't say it's at 100% yet. I can post a few teaser photos of the installation now though. It should all be done later this week so I'll post the rest then.

Inside the antenna mount:

One of the ~20 bonding points:

Thanks for sharing the photos!

Can you post some more for the bonding points? Did you use electrical grease on the connections?

Thanks

I didn't use grease. Per K0BG's bonding page, I just used the tinner copper braid made by Electric Motion, and a collection of tinned star washers from Amazon.

My shop welded a bunch of bolt-shafts all over the place under the body to provide places to attach the copper braid.

I've got the locations all outlined in my other thread here: https://www.wranglerforum.com/f40/ham...k-1585306.html

Here is what I said there:

Here are the strap locations that I can remember:
Right and Left side engine mount to frame
Front bumper to frame
Rear bumper to frame
Right and left side transmission to frame
Right and left side transfer case to frame
Exhaust to frame in 4 places (pre- catalytic converter, at catalytic converter, after catalytic converter, at muffler)
Hood to frame, via rear of engine
Right and left front body panels to frame
Right and left tub body panels to frame
HF antenna mount to frame

How does the little tar heel do on 40m in the range area of say 30miles out to about 300miles? I'm not interested in thousands of miles coverage, just covering a portion of Texas.
